We settled on AAAAK (quad Aces w/kicker). However, we plan to
return
to the DMV tomorrow because today I saw a bunch of plates like ours
(the Welcome to LV plate) and they all had only 4 letters, with no
room left for a 5th letter! I may have to choose a different plate.
The DMV told me that 5 characters in the "LV Centennial" plate will
work OK. If a "personalized" set of characters is chosen (instead of
a 4 digit number/character DMV gives you), the "LV" which appears
ahead of the 4 numbers/characters is removed, leaving room for 5
numbers/characters of my choice. Thus, any video poker hand can be
accomodated (one number/character for each card ... like TJQKA or
12345). I don't know if you can "mix" letters and numbers.
In the paper this morning was an article about a license plate
auction held yesterday ... bidding on the numbers LV0001 thru
LV0100. The LV001 number went for $10,000, to the president of the
LV Motor Speedway. The mayor wanted that number but dropped out of
the bidding. He spoke before the LV0001 bidding started and
said "I hope whoever bids on this bids it to $1 million and gives it
to me to put on my car ... anything less and I'll have you whacked."
I think he was just joking! In total, they raised $35,000 for the
100 plates auctioned. Including regular sales, a total of 19,000+
plates have been issued by the DMV, raising more than $400,000 for
the 2005 Centennial celebration.
I believe sales of the LV Centennial plate will end in December 2005.
