I think I play pretty fast. But, how do I calculate how many hand per hour

VP Hands Per Hour
First, I calculate how many hands it takes to earn a point. Then, I play for six minutes and see how many points I earned in that time. I use this to figure out the number of hands played during that time, and then I multiply by ten.
Let's say I'm playing at a casino that requires $30 coin-in for 1 point. As a single line quarter player, it takes me 24 hands to earn 1 point. Let's say that in six minutes, I earn 2 points. This means that I've done approximately 48 hands in those six minutes -- and playing at that rate means that I'm playing approximately 480 hands per hour.
The longer the time period you use for your calculation, the more accurate your estimate.

1. find out how many dollars it takes to earn a point (let's say 1 dollar per point).
2. put card in machine and record starting points.
3. play for 1 hour.
4. record ending points (let's say you earned 5000 points).
5. let's assume you were playing 5 dollars per hand, that means you played 1000 hands per hour.

Of course, it will help if the machine lets me see the points being
calculated (not just "accepted" in the display). And, it won't work at
Coast Casinos.
But, I will do exactly what you suggested the next time I play!

You can still figure it out at Coast but it's a little more involved.
If you're not a math person (and don't want to convert their points into action), the easiest way at Coast is to go to the booth before you start playing and ask what your coin-in has been month to date. Write this down and then, note the time you begin playing. At the end of your session, go back to the booth and ask again. You can then use the actual coin-in to calculate your hands per hour.
So, if you've played $5k coin-in and were playing single line quarters for six hours, you would divide $5k by $1.25 (= 4k hands played), and then you'd divide the 4k hands by 6 hours to get your play at 666.66 hands per hour.
