VP for LOSERS! 29 Royals in 2008 & $100 PROFIT???

Hello

I am new to all of this - and I mean NO Disrespect to the couple who
recently gave trip reports of 27 Royals a few weeks ago and then over
New Years having 29 or 30 for the year. They sound like a great couple
and I loved reading the news. I hope they have many more!!

BUT if they had 27 to 30 Royals in 2008 - (or even for a few years) and
where only $100 in the Black New Years Eve - How can any fair to good
VP player even hope to have a few thousand in the black at the end of the
year??

I would appreciate your thoughts on this - Thanks!!

Video Poker has a VERY small profit margin (if any) over the long term. Even if you put one million through with a .25% edge, the theoretical profit is only $2500. You either have to be very lucky or play for large amounts (and thus risk large amounts).

I agree.

I also think there are two mistakes players can make. And I have been
guilty of both. But I'm getting better.

The two mistakes center around proper bankrolling.

The first error is to "back off" after a losing session. EX: You are
playing $1 VP and lose $1500. You feel unlucky and reduce your play
to 25c denom, THEN hit your royal. But the net result is a $500 loss.

Or perhaps you "economized" and played at less than 5 coins per bet.
Sound familiar? We all know better.

To avoid Mistake #1, you apportion in advance all your session play
according to what you can afford. And even if you lose, you play max
coins at the same level next time since in the long run it could show
a better result. Eventually.

Mistake #2 is the reverse. You hit a 25c royal and can't wait
to play again since you have money to spare. But you are
overconfident and increase denomination. And the $1000 royal you hit
is quickly depleted at the $1 level. Once again, you were lucky
enough to get a royal but have little or nothing to show for it.

So, yes, I can see how over 20 royals can quickly disappear. Or
perhaps they were squandered on slots which have no strategy. At
least I'm not guilty of that mistake since I don't play slots.

Perhaps the key is to always remember that once you are paid you
really aren't playing with the casino's money anymore.

It's yours.

They play games with negative return. Even with cashback they can't win. They often play
games that only return 99% or less. I can play 3 play, 5 play and multistrike and hit as
many royals as they do. When they break even it's a successful year. They are recreational
players who expect to lose.

You might be surprised to hear; many of us players are sick folks.
Geeze, sometime I play Win Poker all night even for no win loss $$.
Add in $$ and the game is more interesting. Feed me, give me show
tickets and rooms; now were talking turkey. The icing on the
cake.... I might win a couple hundred bucks next year.-

Cheers....Jeep

You can hope to be in the black by having the knowledge to recognize
and exploit only positive plays and by having the discipline to not
play when you have no advantage or your roll isn't big enough.
Profitability is not everyone's priority.
