VP/Firesign Theater

Greetings, my first post, been lurking for awhile. Enjoy everything,
although the tipping scenario was beaten to death. I've been playing
FPVP JOB only, as I've not practised with any software as of yet, soon
to be resolved. My query-which program do you all recommend? Bob
Dancer's, Jean Scott's? Any help is greatly appreciated. Remember
Tantrex? God, those guys were funny! Warmly, neil fahey

Bob Dancer recommends Video Poker for Winners, Tom Ski recommends
Strategy Master, Jean Scott recommends Frugal Video Poker, Dan Paymar
recommends Optimum Play and Dean Zamzow recommends WinPoker.

Hi Neil,

I only have experience with one VP program, so I'm not in a position to
say that it's better or not as good as the others, but I can tell you
that I achieved terrific results with Bob Dancer's WinPoker.

Perry

I've been using Frugal and Winpoker for several years and they get the
job done for me. I use them in tandem. I'm always beating the bush
analyzing oddball payscales (I run the payscale on both for
verification) and I usually need both programs to crank out the
strategy. Frugal has a strategy creation component but it doesn't
recognize penalty situations. They are recognized in the practice
feature though. But I use the "analyze hand" feature on Win to see how
much it costs to overlook the penalty.

I don't think you can beat the mathematical accuracy of Win, and I
always use it for the bottom line on a play, but there are some things
that can be done on Frugal that Win doesn't do. Or, at least I haven't
found it. Like inserting a Quad of the Day. You can also separate
out wild four-of-a kinds from natural four of a kinds at Joker Poker on
Frugal to get the frequency for the naturals in order to calculate the
add-on for a natural four-of-a-kind promotion. I haven't researched
out everything that can be done on Frugal but their is a wealth of
statistical information buried in there somewhere.

But, even as much as I know about video poker, I'm always looking to
improve. Which means I would like to install Video Poker for Winners.
What has kept me from doing it so far is vpFREE posts I have read about
the computer resources necessary to run it. So I'm going to list my
system information here and maybe someone with the experience,
expertise, etc., could advise me if my computer is strong enough to
handle it.

    SYSTEM
Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

   COMPUTER
Intel(R) Celeron(R)M
Processor 1400 MHz
1.40 GHz 480 MB of RAM

Is this strong enough to run VPW? Any advice would be greatly
appreciated. Good luck.

Moe, your little Java applet is quite good, but it does have a few bugs. One which you should fix, is for the user definable game types:
a. You cant save changed games ( by altering pay schedules )
b. I changed the Deuces Bonus poker pay schedule to look like its close cousin the Double bonus deuces ( 99.81), but your program said its only a 99.1 game, and the playing hint/tips were wrong for that game.

So work on it some more, and you may just have something!

Tom,

I don't own this program. I found it on the internet and I just use it to practice J/B, & Deuces. All the plays I've seen have been correct.

my laptop matches these specs almost exactly (same version of windows,
celeron 1.5ghz, 512mb ram) and has no difficulty with vpw. not quite
as snappy as say frugal, but i wouldn't go so far as to call it
sluggish.

cheers,

five

"Not a Crook" being dead and buried at that point.

And "I'm dangerous for the country

having not yet been coined.

I have VPW on my laptop (AMD Athlon ~1.8GHz with 708mb RAM) and on my
desktop PC (AMD Athlon 64 2.2GHz with 1GB RAM). On my laptop, the
program will slow especially after a flurry of activity in, for
example, STP and the multiplier. Occasionally it will freeze for
awhile. You can get it "unfrozen" by alternately minimizing and
maximizing the game. It runs pretty much flawlessly on my desktop.
Whether it is the faster processor or larger amount of RAM is
debateable.
I would think that you would be less frustrated if you upgraded your
laptop. They are cheaper now than when I bought mine 3.5 years ago.

Thanks, Bill

I've got my vote narrowed down to either Dennis Kucinich or Fred
Thompson. For the simple reason that neither of their wives are hard
to look at. It's about the only reason I can think of this election
cycle to vote for someone.
