VP experience at Harrah's Reno

I played some VP at Harrah's Reno on Friday. I found six 9/6 slant $1 machines next to the cashier's cage near the Showroom. In about 4 hours I dropped $500 playing maximum bet ($5) while trying all six machines. In all that time, I hit only one 4 of a kind and one straight flush. Was I just really unlucky or are bad runs like that common? Assuming that all six of the machines were equally promising, I tried all of them out with very little success. Should I have just continued playing them assuming that my luck would eventually turn around? How much of a bankroll should I have to give myself a real chance of coming out ahead eventually? This novice could use some advice. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a pretty common result. Even in a game like JOB, you need your share of 4oks to do well. You were lucky to get a SF; you beat the odds with that one.

Also, mathematically speaking, JoB 9/6 isn't a 100% payback game. Best case, playing computer perfect it's about 99.54 I think. So over the long haul, not short term, it's going to eat up your bankroll. As said before, you might want to drop to quarters and change to 10/7 Double Bonus or Full Pay Deuces Wild if you can find the correct pay schedules.
