points 3 consecutive months, or 1 month of 4,000 points. One point
is awarded for each $1 played. You do have the gas expense and time
it takes to travel. There is non reservation housing less than 2
miles away. The casino is 34 miles from my house with easy access
(40-45 minutes). Obviously you could double the amount if you go
with your spouse. Also there is a free suttle about 2 miles from my
house.
This does not seem bad for an indian casino, but I was wondering
how you evaluate this play. Remember, this is not a substitute for
Las Vegs or Laughlin. Laughlin is over 200 miles away (a little over
4 hours) and Vegas even further. What do you think about this?

On the surface, this sounds like a really good deal. What you are
saying is that with $3000 coin thru per month, which is about an hour
per month of actual play time on dollars (or 4 hours on quarters),
you will receive $530 in coupons, while essentially breaking even on
the game itself. $530 per hour is not bad!!! But, you have one
major drawback that you mention in the next section:

Your travel time is the killer here, as far as you actual "per hour"
earnings are concerned. Plus is sounds like you have to hang around
the casino all day in order to cash in both the morning and afternoon
coupons. It doesn't sound like it would be at all practical to cash
in every coupon you get, unless you happen to live right down the
street from this casino. Plus there is the possibility that IF you
did take advantage of every coupon for a month or two, you might very
well find out that the next coupon booklet you get is not nearly so
generous. Even discounting that possibility, is it really worthwhile
to drive say an hour, hang around the casino for 6 hours, then drive
an hour back home (8 hours total) to collect about $30 in coupon cash?
On the other hand, there are a couple of things that could make this
play more attractive:
(1) Are there other nearby casinos that are playable? (I'm guessing
from your description probably not.) Driving out of your way to
collect money from one isolated casino is probably not a good use of
your time, but driving out of your way to collect money from nine or
ten casinos all located in the same area may be a good use of your
time.
(2) Will you sometimes be passing by this casino for some other
reason (work related travel for instance)? If so, this gives you
some "free" opportunities to collect some bonus money.
(3) Do you sometimes visit this casino anyway? If so, may as well
collect some extra money while you are there.
(4) As you mentioned, can your spouse go with you to "double up"?
I'm sure there are other things to consider that I missed.

Maybe I was not clear on one point. Once you earn the top card
with 4,000 points in one month you remain at that level and do not
need to repeat the feat. The coupons are sent quarterly in a
magazine. I do not know how long you would receive these quarterly
mailings if you did not have any play and just picked up the cash.
I have never waited around the 9 hours that would be required. You
could eat a slow lunch, play some VP, sit around the hotel pool
currently being built, but that would still be tough work. The most
you can receive per person per time period is $20 on Tuesday mornings
and $15 on Sunday night. Sunday is the biggest day with $20 in the
morning and $15 at night. Tuesday is $20 and $10. One would usually
skip Thursday since it is only $5 in the morning and $5 at night.
Most other times you get $10 whether it is for the morning or night
session.
Even if you take the free bus you still would still need to hang
around for 9 hours and, as I said, that doesn't sound like fun. I
know there are a number of people who live in the closest town (2
miles) and regularly pick up their money twice a day. This is
especially true in winter when the "snow bird" population is the
greatest. One person, on social security and whatever retirement,
just said this was like a part time job. It took him 5 minutes to
get there and another 10-15 waiting in line for his cash. It seems
many are doing it in the winter evenings because a line forms before
8:00 PM for those who are either calling it a day or had just arrive
for the cash and are heading straight home!
There are no nearby casinos, but I do take advantage of checking
up on a rental I own in the general direction. I guess that gives
me a little business mileage deduction on those trips! I also have
a daughter and grandchildren in the general deduction. I do not
think they want to see us on a daily basis! I have double dipped
a few times, but that is only because I scheduled stopping in the
morning on the way to one of the above mention trips or some other
destination and coming back that way in the evening. These trips
only are occasional. Playing there is a reasonable option since with
the cash back the nsud might be the highest return of any game in an
Arizona casino. I do not think they offer any other VP games worth
playing. I am assuming they have honest games, but we might never
know the true answer to this question.
The state (Arizona) gets a small cut of all Indian Casino's
profits. The state share of profits in the first quarter of 2005
was $18 million. I am not sure what per cent that is, but I would
also think the Indians would be smart to run honest games. This is
especially true since Arizona is not so far from Nevada and they
would risk losing customers if there were many doubts. I do not
know how long this coupon attraction has been going on. I do know
it has existed the first two quarters of this year and a 3rd quarter
magazine has been promised. The casino was the first in Arizona and
is a little more remote than some in the area. This might be why
they run this type of promotion. They are building a new Radisson
Hotel on the property which should open in the fall. Is there anyway
to factor in money received this way to their best game offered. The
maximum dollars in the fewest trip would be $75 in 6 trips. I also
must mention that the NSUD is available in $.25, $50 and $1. Some
of their machines let you play 10 coins at a time. So I guess one
could qualify with 80 hands with $50 per hand, or 160 hands at $.50
and 20 coins at a time. I need to double check these numbers, but
I believe those are the options available on about 16 machines. It
would be 3,200 hands at $1.25 per play what I normally play. You
only need to qualify once. It is interesting that the 10 coin option
just appeared one day. One day, if you were not careful, a max bet
was all of a sudden 10 coins. Since the pay schedule does not
change, wouldn't you be better off getting to that card level by
playing the most hands with $.25 NSUD. Doesn't this give you the
most chances to get a lucky royal or 4 deuces? Once qualified you
then start collecting whatever money is practical whether you played
anymore or not. I would think you might still play a little
at .99.98!
