VP and Parapsychology.

Does anyone have experience in these field?

Out of the air, I could think of two weird possibilities.

In psychokinesis one can use the power of the mind to do things like
bend spoons. Why not be able to detour smaller things like those
little currents in chips? RNG chips for example? Has anyone been able
to produce the desired cards this way?

In prescience one can see the future. One could on a dealt hand see
what the next cards to be dealt are. This would be useful to be able
to know when to hold three to a royal above a high pair, for example.

I know this post is silly, and I'll tell you why. If anyone really
had those abilities, none of us will never know. This person
certainly would not want to be banned from casinos, LOL.

Sometimes, though, you hear about people winning all the time. Makes
you wonder.

Any comments are welcome. Thanks.

I'll go back to the netherworld to practice on a deck.

Hi,

I would not dismiss things like this so easily, but will give the few

Ye, it is best to read a strategy card. But it is ironic that the
branch of mathematics called probability, on which the strategy card
is based, started only 350 years ago with the chevalier de Méré
asking some gambling questions to Blaise Pascal about craps. We know
dice existed in ancient times. Why did it take humanity thousands of
years -all those years gambling, that´s for sure- to establish the
basic rules of probability? Without probability modern science and
technology would be inconceivable.

Yes, a strategy card is convenient, but I still wonder why some
people win so much all the time. It would be nice to get a royal by
twitching one's nose, like Samantha or Endora, LOL.

<<Yes, a strategy card is convenient, but I still wonder why some

NO ONE WINS ALL THE TIME. If they say they do, they are deliberately lying or have managed to fool themselves into actually believing that.

Brad and I win some of the time and have an occasional BIG win. We lose more sessions than we win. However, over the long term - and we reached it relatively quickly in a year of so of heavy and frequent vacation play, mainly because we learned to use the slot club system, coupons, and promotions heavily. I say we reached our long term, because for about 13 years we have never been behind, in spite of horrendous losing streaks at times during all those years.

Yes, we always try to use optimum strategy, whether you call it the highest EV or ER - although we are not "perfect." My plan has been to try to find the very best plays, using the best VP game we can find on our level, and hunting like mad for cash or cash-equivalent so that we are always making an over-100% play. We do not count comps - that's gravy - although I have no problem with people who put a money-value on them.

I wonder, Steve and all, if this is a good example of not choosing a max EV play: We could play quarters consistently at a much higher EV percentage than the plays we make on a much higher level - because there aren't as many higher EV plays as you go up in denomination. We are getting older and do not have the energy (or the time either with my writing and speaking projects) to play long hours like we used to - so we have switched from the best play EV's to ones with a lower EV. There is also the factor that we can make more PER HOUR at the higher levels even if the EV is lower - and time is our precious commodity. However, the KEY here is that we are choosing between two over-100% plays - NOT between a negative play and a positive one.

To do what we have done is not for the faint of heart or with a small bankroll. We make a higher average profit per year now at the higher levels than we did at the quarter levels of earlier days. However, we have lots of gawd-awful losing sessions. Most gamblers, even many "advantage" players, have too small of a bankroll for the level they are playing. Therefore they are VERY likely to run out of money before they reach their winning long term.

I'm tired and don't have the energy to discuss this further her - some time read Chapter 4 in More Frugal Gambling - I discuss this in more detail - if you want more details.

I will be very busy and/or out of town until the end of the month (and maybe the rest of my life) so I will not be able to spend the time discussing this. You all discuss it among yourselves if you have questions. There are a LOT of people lurking on this list who are doing much what we are doing - and being very successful. Maybe a few might want to comment - although I understand if they don't want to "come out of the closet."

Hi,

I feel I should reply here since you used my sentence in the
parapsychology thread.

Well, I consider a person innocent until proven guilty. Some people
report they win all the time.

I have read from writers that play VP a lot that most sessions are
losing sessions, but they end up ahead after a while.

I believe your results do not need explanations in parapsychology. If
during a long period of time you play with correct strategy a massive
number of hands in games with a return that with cashback and comps
is over 101%, what seems to be called max-EV strategy, then just
orthodox probability theory would predict that you are likely to be
ahead. One does not need to look for an explanation of your results
elsewhere.

If someone through the years wins in most every day dedicated to
gambling, at machines that are slightly above or slightly below 100%
return, the reasons for those results merit attention. I will not say
this person violates probability theory. Probability theory allows
even for something none of us have ever seen, like ten consecutive
royals -most of us have seen ten instant royals in multi play, but
that is something else- but with a staggeringly low probability. Thus
only a few cases of people winning all the time would merit looking
into to see if there is not some form of parapsychology at work
there; something that brings the successful events about, other than
chance.

I hope the distinction is clear. I was not thinking of you when I
said "some people win all the time". Unless you have won on much more
than half your sessions but it does not seem so, since you say "we
have lots of gawd-awful losing sessions", thus you might not be a
good subject to parapsychological studies.

Good luck and best wishes for more winnings.

I think this everytime I see a get rich scheme ( buying real estate,

these gurus knew anything definitively, they'd never tell anyone
else, just bet the ranch and live happily ever after.
