visit to Montelago

Recommend that you print that map to Montelago & rent a car instead. Best
route would be to take Flamingo to I-15 S to 215 E which then becomes Lake Mead
Drive. Folks at Ritz-Carlton next door tell me it's 17 mi/35 min. AAA route
is much shorter at 7.9 mi but 15 min time estimate must be for traveling at 3
am. It normally takes 15 min to get out of the FH parking lot during the
day.

Plan to spend at least half a day (evening's best) there to see not only
Casino Montelago but as much of Lake Las Vegas as you can. Just behind the
Casino is Montelago Village (shops & eateries) & flanking it are two beautiful
hotels one of which (Ritz-Carlton) is connected by a covered bridge. Across the
Lake is the Hyatt Regency, another beautiful hotel with a small casino.
Somewhere around the Lake are Celine Dion's digs.

When you get there, the contrast with the Strip is stunning. In a half hr,
you go from the Strip's grating, noisy imitation of Times Square to an
environment designed with the objective of understated elegance. Take the time to
enjoy it.

As for the car rental, on my last visit to LV rented a car from Dollar for
$25/day. (Used CTI code on advice of Mike, hockeystl which provides $15/day
discount.) They picked me up at Rio & took me to their Swenson St location (one
long block from airport). I returned car to airport location, no additional
charge.

I asked the same question several months ago and the best solution
we could come up with was to bus it to Fiesta Henderson and take a
cab from there. I was staying at BC and decided it would just be
too time consuming.

I mapped it on the AAA website and it said 7.9 miles - 15 minutes
from FH to Hyatt Lake Las Vegas. I think the problem is finding a
cab that goes out that far.

Please report if you try this. We're going in October and might be

The driving directions given by Ted seem to agree with what we used to
get to Montelago.

play my machine locked up. Within another 3 minutes the adjacent
machine that my friend was playing PickEm on also locked up. And it
locked up prior to posting the credits from his just completed hand. A
floor supervisor eventually resolved things to our satisfaction, but
we could tell from the demeanor/responses of him and the slot techs
that this was not the first occurence of such a glitch. We decided to
cash out at this point and left.

A thing that particularly irked me were the prominent signs in the
walkways that boasted of the best full pay video poker in Vegas. This
in fact was not the case. Both I and my friend left Montelago with the
impression that someone was trying to pull a fast one. We have no
plans to return.

I suspect you overlooked some positive machines.

Monte Lago doesn't have as many positive machines as
they once had, but my periodic checks with regulars has
always confirmed that they still had a couple of banks or
more of all of the machines listed in the DataBase.

There are at least 2 banks of full pay deuces and many banks of full
pay (4000) jokers. ALL banks are multigame and multi denomination.
The full pays are all quarters and they ARE there.

Don't be so sure. I went to M for the first time last Dec and played
10/7DB & 10/6DDB; lost $400 in under 2 hours. Went back in April
with a friend as he wanted to check it out and I did too because
when I was there in Dec I went at night and missed the "sights." We
played 10/6DDB for 3 hours and had a combined loss of $1000. Then we
walked around the village and admired the beauty of the whole area.
The landscaping there is incredible, imo. As pretty and comfortable
as the place is, I don't expect I'll go back... those are some of
the worst losses I've ever incurred playing 25c in such a short
period of time. I know that is not "sound" thinking, but I just have
bad vibs there. I wish I had done better as I would have liked to
check out the RC on a future visit.

Might want to check your fine tooth comb for missing teeth :-). I have
played there for a year on a once or twice weekly basis and their inventory
has remained stable with the exception of one downgrade that occurred on
Monday, Jun 28. At that time they shorted the deuces in all the machines in
the one bank that is diagonally across from the stairs to the sportsbook.
In the bank that is perpendicular to the wheel of fortune machines that are
near to and on the same wall as the slot club, they shorted every other
machine's deuce paytable, and every other machine's KBJW paytable, to
eliminate the two machine players on this bank. You can still "double up"
on the bank near the northeast corner where the employee door goes out to a
hallway. Nine of the ten machines on this bank have FPDW, jokers and 10/7
DB. One corner machine has NSU, who knows why. I am quite sure that their
advertising of full pay machines is accurate. There are three other banks
in the casino with plenty of 100%+ games on them. I know 10/6 DDB is
there, but I'm not sure how many as I don't play this game. I could break
even by staying at home and watching Oprah.

It's probably not the casino, but your game selection. DDB and DB
are high variance ... try some DW, JB, or JW next visit.
