I just discovered that over at Amazon.com they have no less than 31
titles about video poker. Granted, quite a few of them are listed
as "out of print" or "out of stock". Still, it seems quite a few
people have sought to make a profit from VP by writing about it as
opposed to playing it. My favorite title of the lot: "Video Poker:
The Face of Pain". LOL. I think a lot of us can probably relate to
that one. I'd love to know more about the content, but alas, there is
no summary or review of any kind at Amazon, and it is also one that
is out of print.
"Video Poker: The Face of Pain"
Yeah, in Bob Dancer's "Million Dollar VP" book, he comments a couple
of times how some pro gamblers don't like gambling authors, because
they divulge the secrets to the masses. What bugs me is that Dancer
never admits that his philisophy is, "screw the pros". Dancer can
make money selling books, and he's beyond his own need to play VP all
the time, so he doesn't care if the masses are crowding out the
advantage players.
I don't mind the books, and I don't mind the masses, and I am not an
advantage player. I just mind it when an author pretends to be doing
me a favor by writing a book, when what he or she is really doing is
making a living.

I'm not surprised that some people profit from writing about VP
rather than playing it. Writing something original about VP, and
playing VP, require entirely different skills. I enjoy studying the
game far more than spending countless hours in a casino. Not that I
don't enjoy playing ... I do ... but an hour or two every few days is
enough for me.

I know exactly what you mean. Of course, most of my play is done at home using either WinPoker of FrugalVP ... and I enjoy analyzing the game ... looking at the effects of penalties, for example ... at least as much as playing the game itself.
Cheers.
