Video Poker Player magazine

From: "Albert Pearson" <a-p@sympatico.ca>
Just to add another opinion....

I used to subscribe to VPP. I dropped my subscription because I found very
little new or useful information therein.
If you must have all published VP information then go ahead and get it.
If I were to make a list of where people should spend their money on
publications/software, it would be headed by

1. Video Poker software - Either Frugal VP, or BDPWP and VP Strategy master
.
2. Las Vegas Advisor .
These are the MUST Haves .

Albert,

Curious as to why you consider the LVA a "must have"? Content or for the
POV?

I found the content to be somewhat dated as most information is usually on
the 'net before they ever publish it. It seems to be geared more toward a
"tourist" type of read. As a frequent visitor I pretty much know where to
go and what to see, so it seems of little use to me.

Thanks,

SK

I agree the content can be dated, just like the VPP, but using just
one or two selected coupons from the POV makes for a positive EV.

When you combine, the newsletter, the internet boards, and the POV, you have an unbelievable bargain.
I don't believe there is any other publication that comes close in value, and I use very few coupons in a year.

What is the "POV", if you don't mind? I checked the vpFREE glossary, and it isn't mentioned.

Thanks.

It's the coupon book available to Las Vegas Advisor members, Bill
(Pocketbool of Values). Check out: http://lasvegasadvisor.com/

Ok, "nearly empty" is a bit of an exaggeration. But I was there today (a Saturday afternoon) and would estimate the number of customers at about one fifth the number of machines. The Bally MultiGames were busy, as were the 50- and 100-play penny machines and Multi-Strikes. All their other short-pay junk had 1 or 2 people playing on each bank of 10 to 12 machines. The bar (which was airing an NBA playoff game on the widescreen TV) had ONE customer playing VP.

I was thinking it was the nice weather keeping people out of the casino, but the table games were all busy and the slots weren't doing too badly, either.

Maybe they'll get the message and improve the pay scales. We KC'ers can always hope.

The $50 Palms coupon alone pays for a LVA subscription. LVA is at the
opposite end of the spectrum from VPP magazine, which is a total waste of
money. Between vpFREE and LVA you get ten times the information in a more
timely manner than VPP

As promised, and with Tom's permission, I am making available a
couple of free issues of Video Poker Player, as well as a special
discount for those VPFREE members who are interested. To view Video
Poker Player, which comes in the form of a pdf file, you need the
latest version (version 6) of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

To get the free issues, please visit
http://www.vpplayer.com/specialoffer/ and use the userid/password
combination: freespec/fulmious. ID = freespec and password=fulmious.
Be sure to use all lower case letters.

You will find a link to the Adobe site where you can download the
latest reader (it's free also) and links to the two latest issues.
There is also a link to an order form with a special price for those
enjoy the ezine.

The May issue will be out in the first two or three days of May.

Have fun!

"fulmious", Skip? That one sent me running to my Funk & Wagnalls to
no avail ... guess it should at least keep the random
password-spinning "bots" at bay

Version 5 works perfectly. Unless I'm mistaken, the Version 6 download is only a trial period of their 'for sale' software, and I figure it will probably replace the 'free' version (v.5) that I already have, so I decided to just use what I already have, and no problems.

Unless I looked in the wrong place, it says "Trial" version, which is 'free' ... but for how long?

I'll take a look, Skip, and then make a decision. Thanks for making the free-samples available.

I thought you might like that. Sounds good doesn't it? I think it
means something like qualmate.

Hey Bill;
Version 6 is the current version of the reader. There shouldn't be
any reason for a trial version, I think, as the reader has always
been free.

Adobe Acrobat itself is not free, that is what I use to create the
pdf files. The link to get the latest reader is
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

It's good to have the latest version because there are so many
documents that use the pdf format. You can hardly swing an
electronic cat on the Net without slamming into a pdf file.

I'm sure some folks missed this, so I copied the note into a VPFREE
file. All will be available until 5/15/04.
