Video Poker Observations/Cuss-tomer Service

I'm taking license here to combine two subjects.

I'd respectfully disagree with the MSS suggestion. If you stay there with
the proviso that they will review your play at checkout for comp purposes,
you're taking a pretty big gamble that they will not only stiff you in a big way,
but be downright rude about it. The casino is very nice, with some good
playable VP and excellent drink service. The hotel operation, however, was the
worst experience I'd ever had for renting short-term lodging. Anywhere. I did
get some mail offers from them afterwards, but I wouldn't let a stray dog stay
there.

It seems the emphasis of providing good service is deteriorating very
quickly. A casino says "Come in, play well, and we will take care of
you". You do that, researching info from places like the good people
who post here, and then you get a nasty surprise at checkout.

It's as if the formula is "Do A, you get B, but when you do A we are
not going to give you B after all".

Brian--I will first admit that I have never stayed at MSS, but I have stayed at Gold Coast and from what I can tell, the rooms sound similiar. There are some folks on the LVA that are great supporters of MSS and are the first to admit that they are also comped. I know many of these people and believe me that they could "jump thru more hoops" and be comped at a fancier strip property but actually prefer to stay at MSS. I know that all the rooms were recently renovated but I don't think that any of these folks that I know from the LVA would stay at any property that has a hotel operation that was"the worst experience I'd ever had for renting short-term lodging. Anywhere. "
Somehow I surmise that there are other factors that are influencing your statements. That being said, I can compare that many stays I've had at The Rio (approx 10+) stays and out of them, I'd say that 1 or 2 of them were not what I expected the Rio to be. Even my hubby, who is a non-complaining, mid-westerner complained loudly a couple times--but that doesn't mean that the Rio is a BAD place with "the worst experience I'd ever had for renting short-term lodging. Anywhere."!!!
I guess what I'm saying is that if you've only stayed there once and didn't like it -- fine but others (with some pretty high standards) think it is a fine place, even if they're comped pretty well. AFter all, isn't that the point here? Don't we all want to accrue as many points/comps as possible and if we're all comped are none of us to be trusted because "certain folks are nicely "comp"-ensated for beating that drum on such a widely read forum."?

You sure did have a bad experience there, and ended up being very
disappointed with them. Yet among the experiences you had, it seems
the bad room and the comp treatment sticks out.

Even the nicest casinos have their worst room and their best, even
within each price class. Comps have always been somewhat arbitrary,
since humans get involved in the process. The book 'Comp City' seems
to devote itself into how to this political matter can be manipulated
to one's own favor. In the world of VP this political aspect is less
important, since computers on each machine supply descrete info about
players, tending to limit the human element.

I've had numerous nice experiences at Main Street. Then too, I'll be
entering a new arena, no matter where I venture, and I'll be asking
way more questions than usual, before I make a move. I won't assume I
understand what my treatment will be, and I suspect things will work
out really great.

Main Street was recommended as being favorable for my kind of thrifty
strategy. The implication is they are generous with comps. Here's
what you said below, on the subject:

'... if they're comped pretty well. AFter all, isn't that the point
here? Don't we all want to accrue as many points/comps as possible
and if we're all comped are none of us to be trusted because "certain
folks are nicely "comp"-ensated ...'

You've made the point that Main Street is good with comps. Someone at
Main Street might get stingy in interpreting their generous strategy,
and undoubtedly it happens from time to time. Then too, I'm not too
concerned that some contributors to vpFREE are influenced to limit to
positive contributions about certain places, bribed so-to-speak.
After all, they're happy, and they can honestly say the place they're
recommending is a great place. I can take that with a tiny bit of
salt. Having lived all these 68 years, and having been involved
deeply in politics, I'm very sensitive to propaganda in all its
forms, especially with the media.

Overall Main Street is highly regarded. I might play there just for
buffets and the fun of it! I might ask to see some of their wonderful
hotel rooms, just for laughs...

I can only address my experiences at Main Street Station. I have always been fully comped there and have never had anything promised not been delivered.
The rooms were certainly getting run down, but the recent renovations have improved things quite a bit.

Thanks, Albert!

I value your recommendation, and realize it's sincere and objective! Whenever I'm staying in downtown, no matter at which casino, Main Street buffets always bring me in, and with generous video poker the draw will be all the more appealing.
