Can anyone confirm that Pick'em Poker is not available on this product?

Yes, it is not available. Pick'em is a Bally's product and VPW is tied into
IGT.

Yes and no. Pick'Em is definitely not on VPW. Most pay schedules
on VPW are IGT, but there is the 10/7/80 game which is strictly a Ballys
version.

The Pick'Em brand name is owned by Ballys, but Pick'A Pair (I'm
not positive there is an apostrophe there in the name) is essentially
the same game on the IGT box, including variations such as Deuces Wild
and some Bonus games. It would well be within the scope of VPW to have
this game.

Alas, there were several games (including Pick'A Pair and Double
Joker) that didn't make the cut, along with a certain lack of
functionality on all Joker Wild games. The product cost over $300,000 to
bring to market and there some trade-off decisions that needed to be
made. I had a vote at the table, and several features are on the product
simply because I thought it was a good idea, but sometimes "bigger
votes" overruled my recommendations. Still, having a video poker expert
"at the table" allows for a better-for-the-players product than if the
program was designed and created strictly by programmers.

If and when a new version comes about, I'm sure that Pick'A Pair
and Double JOker will both be on there. (I doubt if One Eyed Jacks will
make it unless I became convinced that a good pay schedule was available
on a significant number of machines around the country.) Likely far more
Action Gaming games will be on the second version, if and when.

100.28 OEJ is available at Santa Fe Station for quarters. 99.98 OEJ is
available throughout NV and other jusridictions. Lesser paytable
versions abound nationwide.

Frankly, more casinos should offer this game, it's excruciatingly
difficult to play, and variance approaches DDB. The game is
essentially half-Joker, half-DJW, and you have to learn two separate
Joker-based, penalty card specific strategies. And good luck finding
those strategies as well, as no training program offers the game, save
for the ancient VP Freebie.

In an edited part of the post, Bob reports that there's an issue with
programming Joker games. I'm kind of surprised to read this, as I
would imagine the SOA of coding has progressed dramatically since
Winpoker, which is several years old. Perhaps a clarification is in order?

Pick'Em and Double Joker are available on the Frugal VP software.

The coding is all there and perfect plays are selected. What isn't
available on the Joker Poker variations is the strategy-creation module.
The strategies that are there for Joker Poker were manually created by
me. If you change the pay table for a Joker Wild game, no new strategy
is created. Basically we ran out of time before this component was
finished.
