Video Poker for Winners -- Read this before you buy

I suggest that you only buy the product directly from
http://www.videopokerforwinners.com either by ordering online or by
downloading. There are older versions floating around and purchasing
an old CD will mean you'll need to download the new version anyway.

However, you may save $5 because I believe the LVA is discounting the
sale, and maybe other places too.

Here's what happened: I was in the Las Vegas Advisor office a week
or two ago renewing my subscription. While there I bought VPW in the
retail box. I installed it a few days ago and immediately had
problems. I contacted VPW support online and they responded, telling
me I had an old version and I needed to download the new version.

OK, so you might say "What's the latest version Mac, and I'll just
check the retail box to see what version I'm buying". It doesn't
seem to be as simple as that.

The latest version is 1.12
The version I have is 1.0.5.0
However, the BOX I purchased says it contains version 1.5b ??

So if you want to save $5 maybe you should buy from the LVA and then
download the latest version after installing and registering. Or if
you're like me and would rather have less trouble; go ahead and pay
full price and get it right the first time directly from the web site.

As with software, sometimes forum posts need additional work after
first being published, so here's a "patch".

To be clear, I want to add that the support folks at VPW offered to
mail a CD to me so I wouldn't have to do the download. At 160+ MB
it's a fairly large download if you're on a slower DSL or a satellite
or aircard, etc. My system indicated something like 1.5 hours to
complete. You folks with a 2Mbps cable-modem or downloading at work
with corporate speeds shouldn't have this problem. :wink:

So my comments shouldn't be taken as negative about VPW or their
support, support was great! My point is; if you're going to end up
obtaining the software again "from the source" then why not just buy
it there to begin with. The best place to purchase is directly from
the company.

OK, now install this patch and you'll have version 1.1 of the post.
