Video Poker Choice

I agree. Hitting the RF right away and stopping is not an option. I do try, and I mean
try, to lower the denom, play single hand, or another game. Recently, I try and set
a goal before hand, which usually is one of the larger hands such as Aces, or Deuces.
I hit that, then play something else. This preserves the royal and gives me a better
chance of taking most of it home. Multistrike at a low demon is an excellent distraction.
I only have a real basic knowledge of it, but heck its fun.

I must admit I will take part of the RF and take a shot at something big, such as playing
triple play $5 machine. With this, I play until I hit a predetermined jackpot, and or end up with
a w2g of some sort. Or go down the tubes.

Of course sometimes, I dont behave logically and give it back. Usually not.
Still pursueing the glory of a dealt royal on mutiplay, no luck as of yet.

Jim: I don't think it's reasonable to expect me or you or any other players of our type to quit after hitting a quick $4k RF when we come in from out of town for 4 days. But that also does not mean that it's not the smart thing to do either. Me, I CANNOT quit because I'd have a desire to keep playing, being that's why I came to town and all anyway. It is a long term approach, true, but it has been my far greater, greater experience after winning something big on my first day that I would have left town with much more money had I quit then and there than the very very seldom times I played the rest of my visit and took home more. I think most people would have the same experience. I'm not advocating quitting, I'm just saying I wish I was able to have more of a choice in doing it without the machines pulling me back to them.

Glen, are you suggesting, that a $1 VP player who travels to vegas fora 4 day trip, and happens to sit down in the first 5 min. hits a RF for $4000 and would most likely be up about that much, just quit for the rest of the trip? I think that most of us take a long term approach to VP and whether we hit something in the first 5 min or last 5 min of a trip or session isnt really significant. The more you play
the more RFs you will eventually hit, sometimes there will be long lags between them and sometimes you will hit more than 1 in a day (unless you quit). A 50play machine is a good example of this. if you play 500 base hands per hour that is 25,000 hands per hour, and I have gone many hours without a RF, and then I have hit a couple of them in 10 min. Neither event tells you anything about the future, you could be dealt 4 to the RF and get 2 or 3 on one hand (I have done
this with a StrFlsh), the next hand (or any time period you choose) you could get a dealt RF, the point is, there is nothing magical about getting a good hand or not getting a good hand, it is all random.
