Video Keno

This is a simple video keno question I could not answer.

One can see how the correct numbers are selected in live keno.
Is the number selection different in Video Keno? Are the
numbers selected random and have to match those numbers that
you selected. Or instead, when one hit draw, does the RNG
generated a total number of matches and it does not matter
which numbers you selected.

Obviously there is no skill. I could not answer how the RGN
selected the nubers. It is amazing how much effort some video
keno players seem to put into this game.

One thing I could answer was that video keno should have a
higher return than live keno since it is a slot machine and
must conform to the regulated minimum return laws of slot
machines.

Bob

Bob,

On my IGT GameKing here are the available ERs for Keno:

KENO: 93.3% 92.1% 90.3% 88.2% 86.9% 84.0%
4 CARD KENO: 93.3% 92.1% 90.3% 88.2% 86.9% 84.0%
CAVEMAN KENO: 94.0% 92.1% 90.1% 88.0%

I don't think there is any way to tell which % the casino is using.
But I can guess!

Just like video poker, you can tell video keno return by the paytable.

These are the 95% returns and are fairly easy to find:

7 spot: 7000-422-22-2-1
6 spot: 1660-75-4-3
5 spot: 838-13-3
4 spot: 100-5-2

There are even better paytables, progressives, and bonuses, you just have to check around.

Keno has the reputation of being the tightest game in the house, which is good for comps and your player rating, but in reality, like any other game, it can go positive under the right circumstances.

I have a theory (completely unsubstantiated, by the way) that when you are having a losing day you are simply playing the wrong game at the wrong time.

For that reason, some of you might venture over to Keno with a few dollars after losing at 9/6 Jacks where you couldn't possibly do worse than break even and ended up blindsided.

In the long run, making that move will kill you. But so will playing 9/5 DDB or any other game with an overall lesser payback.

But that's LONG-TERM. And in the short run people do hit royals or aces with a kicker every day on 9/5 or even 8/5 DDB. And they also hit 6/6 on Keno, which is not all that undoable.

In that regard, for all you "light" keno players, I can tell you that TI (Treasure island) prior to the new owners (my last visit) had Keno near the deli that paid 3200 for a 6/6 which is about double the usual jackpot. To compensate for that you sacrifice a bit hitting 5/6 and 4/6. But, hey, if you're playing Keno, you're only looking for a "short-term" miracle anyway.

Unless the total package including comps is positive, in which case you're looking to grind out an edge. Penny keno is a favorite of "advantage alcoholics" and also promotions that credit your total time at a machine. Keno players usually get the best comps (because everyone assumes all Keno games have the worst odds). Video poker players usually get the worst comps, even if you play stuff like 8/5 DDB (because everyone assumes all video poker games have the best odds).

I know there are internet gambling sites that offer full pay joker and deuces 4700, and Keno with 95% returns. I have never, ever - came across a 5C to $1 video keno machine in vegas with these monster high payoffs. Care to share 1 vegas or reno place with these ?
thanks...Tom

I was at Seneca Niagara casino when a tech was checking the machines. He called up each game and the display showed the return. All the video poker games were within one percent of the table indicated return except joker poker which was 3 points higher. The caveman keno on the two machines I was watching were 83 and 84%.

FYI

I am sorry, but I do not understand your post. The VP games were within 1% of what table and were they higher or lower or some of each?

On JP, same question, 3% higher than what?

I am not an advocate for playing keno. For me, it is a limited funds "supplement" on a bad VP day when I want to take a quick shot at recouping funds. The laws of mathematics say that this approach will not succeed in the long run. So, those of you guided strictly by the math need read no further.

But in Keno's defense, I will say only two things.

First, you will be comped generously. Hosts see the payback is relatively low and reward you accordingly.

Second, in the event you hit something major, the machine will not be downgraded. I have hit 8/9 at four separate Strip properties. None of the payouts on those machines had been altered on subsequent visits.

But the focus of this group is video poker. So, my apologies for venturing off topic for a subject already raised.

FYI

Higher or lower than paytable theoretical.
Someone must have hit 5ofk on JP
