Verbatim Posting

Thanks for posting this. It was on my list of things to do,
but I got bogged down doing other things.

Verbatim posting is covered in the TOS and I've just
added the following item to the Posting Guidelines:

"Never post copyrighted material verbatim on vpFREE.
Instead, post a link to the material and/or a summary."

Allright, I am going to get vented.

First, why didn't anyone twitch at the original posting? It was a
complete verbatum of a copywrited newspaper article without any
reference. No reference of the LVRJ article. The civil way to do such
things is to provide a hot link to to original source and do a teaser
sampler (up to 10%) of the pertinet passages. Who was that anyway?

I respectfully suggest you reconsider this. Sometimes there are 10 words
in written copyrighted material that merit quoting. Posting a link isn't
possible if the material isn't in electronic format, and summarizing 10
well-phrased words often ruins their elegance.

If you add the word "lengthy" (as in "Never post lengthy copyrighted . .
.", perhaps this is closer to what is correct, although the definition
of "lengthy" is ambiguous.

FWIW, I believe short, relevant, properly-cited referenes should always
be allowed.
