It appears things have changed with the high end hotels on the Strip.
About 5 years ago we paid for one night in the B, a grand experience
as we had a room overlooking the lake and the fountain shows. Every
year since then we received invitations to return for comped rooms;
sometimes twice a year. Many offers also included Freeplay. Food
comps were easy and we didn't have to "pay" for the room first. We
had a similar experience at the V based on just wandering in and
playing a little a few years ago (no food comps, though).
This year from the B and the V nothing, nada, zip, zilch, even through
the "slow" times in Dec. Last year we had offers from MGM, TI, B, and
the V for December. This year, nothing from any of them.
Evidently they are having no problem filling the rooms and I suspect
at rack rate from non-gambling tourists who pay full price for everything.
But the Fremont, Harrah's, and the Rio still love us so we will make
our annual sojourn to Las Vegas and stay at those hotels -- depart KC
in a couple weeks.

We have experienced similar drying up of room offers from Caesars
Palace. Several years ago after comping 5 of 6 nights (at convention
rate of $100) after moderate play, we were mailed offers which have
got less attractive in spite of higher play. Their room occupancy
rates have gone way up this year and offers have dried up.
During my last trip earlier this month, I put in one day of play
wherby I earned over $200 of comp dollars. We now stay with
relatives in Vegas, and don't need or want rooms offers;
nevertheless if I don't receive a room offer from Caesars I'll feel
unloved and may stop patronizing them.
Incidently, do any of you have play recomendations for one such as
me who is not a local (but can provide a local adress) for whom
bounce back and most mailers are not useful, but who does not need
or want room offers. I am tired of being treated as a second class
customer.
