I don't post very often on here but I read the posts every day. Have
learned a lot from this group about video poker. I have a lot of
respect for all the video poker experts out there, and have been
following some of them for years. I purchased Linda Boyds book a year
ago and I found it very useful and I do use her strategy cards.
I usually only get to Las Vegas once a year for 5 or 6 night and a
couple of trips to Atlantic City or Tunica the rest of the year. The
only casino we have in North Carolina is Harrahs Cherokee, and most
of you know what the gaming is like there, so it is a real treat for
me to go to Las Vegas.
I am a very small player, mostly for quarters, but I do try to find
the best games that I can, considering that we stay on the strip and
never rent a car. This time we stayed at Flamingo for two nights and
then moved to Harrahs for the other three because we had free nights
for the entire trip. I was invited to the slot tournament they had.
That was my first time for a slot tournament and I don't think I ever
want to play in another one. I have fibromyalgia and the pain of
hitting a button for 15 minutes straight was almost unbearable to me,
but I did end up placing 74th and won $70. (still wasn't worth it. We
had to play 3 rounds)
Flamingo nor Harrahs had anything full pay for the denomination that
I play so I gave them very little play for my trip. On the first
night I was playing a progressive bonus poker at Flamingo and hit a
Royal Flush for $1080.00 which was a great way to start off my trip !!
I always get the coupon sheet from Casino Royale and I know in the
database it says the locals don't play there, so I was careful not to
use my cheat sheet for anything and I did manage to pick up some
bonus money on the 4 of a kinds plus get comps for Dennys for
breakfast for two mornings by playing when they offer triple points.
I always play at Tropicana when I am in Las Vegas because I still
like the "older machines" even if they are not full pay. Two years
ago I hit a royal there, and last year my daughter hit a royal there,
so I went back to the same place to try again. The bonus poker was 7-
5, and so I have a question for you. Does that game turn positive if
the progressive gets high enough. It was a quarter machine and the
rest of the pay schedule was correct except it was 7 instead of 8 for
the full house. There were only 5 machines connected to the
progressive and I played on a Tuesday with no luck and put way too
much money into it, and on Wednesday I just didn't go back, but on
Thursday I went back and no one had hit it, so I took a seat and
decided I was in it for the long haul. By then it was over $1500
which I thought was really high for a quarter machine. It was our
last full day there and I played for about 3 to 4 hours but only had
about $100 invested and held 3 cards when the ROYAL FLUSH came up. I
won $1638 !! That definitely turned our trip into a winning trip this
time. I had tried to get my husband and daughter to play also to
increase our chances of one of us winning but they wouldn't.
I came home a winner although the next day when we were leaving and
on our plane the baggage handler ran into our plane with the luggage
and our flight ended up getting cancelled and I ended up getting sick
and we stayed an extra night but I was in bed while everyone else
went back to the strip, but I made it home with my money and have
booked another trip to Las Vegas to play in a video poker tournament
at Ballys in August. I want to try my luck again so I am coming back
by myself. Does anyone know which kind of video poker they play for
that tournament?
thanks,
