Vegas Strip various

Just back from 2 days in Vegas with Mom. Stayed at Caesars on $300
freebie. They'd said I'd get Augustus room when I'd made reservation.
When I arrived, they gave me Palace. Other unexpected downgrade was
that concierge wouldn't print boarding passes without $5 charge. I like
the Diamond Lounge, but food sort of mediocre, maybe I didn't hit it at
right time for a proper meal. It was open 9a-10p during weekend, 4p-?
on Mon.

The City: too hot.

Played at the $ Bonus Poker machines at Paris on Sun to avoid stiffing
The Corp. They gave roughly 3:1 bonus reward credits. After 100 base
credits ($1K coin in), promo gave us "win finders." (Special case for
Ballys/Paris, get 100 base between them, and you get win finder from
each.) 2 of our 4 went off, and paid $100 + $50 in comps added to my
Total Reward account. Mom hit quad fours for $200 on VP, best hand.
We finished down $160. The win finder promo included some free music
downloads, which I haven't figured out yet.

Harrahs Diamond Lounge under construction. Small food selection, but
great crab soup.

Mom was new Wynn sign-up, so we got free buffets after 100 points
($1K coin in). I still say the buffet is great. Sun brunch opened at 8am
with little line. Likewise for Mon breakfast when we went around 10am.
After Mom hit her 100, we played together on my account at rate of
~500pts/hour. 1500pts enough for the 2nd two buffets on Mon morn.
Those comps were use-it-or-lose-it after 72 hours. For hitting my first
500pts on my own account, got 2 more buffets coming, that they said
are good for a year.

So in summary: 1st 2 buffets after 100pts. Another 2 after 500pts.
That's a special promo; otherwise, 2 meals for 1500 pts. Each 500pts is
$10 free play. I think that makes the play ~99.7%? Worth it for the food
and atmosphere; I'm hoping for some sort of Dec offer. Lost about $400.

Circus Circus is a zoo. We played $ NSUD+ for about 4 hours over 2
days. I'd thought I was establishing myself for future offers/stays at
Circus, but turns out even the meager $30+ comps I earned vanish after
72 hours. And seeing the place so packed with families, I wonder if they
market to my kind. So it was all a bust for that plan, but I hit quad
Deuces twice and Mom hit them once ($1K each). Walked away with
~$2.3K profit. They gave us each $5 free play for our email. Also, we
each played the "$15 for $10" blackjack promotion, which is ligit worth
about those $5.

Finished up at Hooters. Started with quarter loose deuces. But they had
a promo for a stuffed Hooters owl for 900 pts ($2700 coin-in) and I
wanted it for a friend's baby, and we didn't have time to earn that at
quarters. So switched to NSUD at dollars and did the pts in 40 min or so
(+$56 too). They give $5 cashback for 500 pts, which I think makes
NSUD just about even. Hope they don't change, that's where I'll take my
play next time.

Including $300 cash from Caesars for coming, $56 bounce back from
play back when Caesars was good, we were ahead $2100 for trip when
we left. No crowd or fuss at airport on a Monday afternoon.

The win finder promo included some free music
downloads, which I haven't figured out yet.

I've found these downloads to be useless. ALL the new music
available is in WMA format, not MP3, and won't play in ANY iPod. If
anyone knows how to convert a DRM-enabled WMA file to MP3, I'm all
ears.

I was there for the same $300 Caesar's promo. I checked into
Caesars at the airport. We drove from Phoenix, but stopped at
the airport to pick up my son who also had booked the $300 promo.
It took a long time for us to get our room booked. A supervisor
had to come over and looked for a long time before finally finding
a non smoking room. I had booked 2 beds in the Augustus Tower,
but she could not find such a room. We finally received a king
non smoking on the 35 floor facing the fountains in the Augustus
Tower.

Since we were waiting for our son's plane, I asked about his
reservation He had also booked the Augustus Tower, but was
placed in the Centurion Tower. I asked if he could be moved to
our tower, but she said they were extremely over booked for the
weekend and no switch was possible. I had 73,000 tier points
and he had 8,000 for the year.

I only played video poker at Harrah's Casino on Saturday.
Some $5 and mostly $1 JoB. The only time on the trip that I
swiped my card was at the Harrah's Diamond Lounge on the
only day I played, Saturday. All the other times we used my
wife Diamond Card. This strategy was to help maintain my
averages. Well they really took a hit! All averages dropped,
including the longest term average. It is the first time in 3
years this long term average has dropped. I assume they are
recording that I stiffed Caesars. I put over 3,000 tier points
on my card at Harrah's on Satuday.

I have just emailed my Caesar's host and explained this
situation. He had previously told me that it did not matter at
which casino I played on a trip. Until this is corrcted, it
certainly does matter! We will see if and how this might be
corrected!

The IPod device that can be won was made in China and the instructions
(as usual) were not very well proof read. I'm thinking of sending the
whole booklet to Jay Leno for his Headlines segment. Anyway, I've
never owned one of those devices, and any help in figuring out how to
use it would be appreciated. Thanks.

This would require downloading, and installing, Windows DRM software
which presents all sorts of issues as it relates to using CDs, DVDs,
MP3s, etc.

I am going to comment on your impression of the Diamond Lounge at
Caesars. I think "sort of mediocre" is being generous. I went with a
friend (around 7PM on a Friday) and I had expectations of something
impressive. The room was impressive. The drinks were impressive. But
the food was average (the wraps) to poor (the desserts) to awful (the
chicken wings). I know Harrahs is known for cutting corners, but this
was the Diamond Lounge at Caesars. Isn't that one step below the
highest tier level?

I won one of those MP3 players last week. I haven't opened the package
yet, but had to laugh at the knock-off styling of the iPod. Just wait
until Apple see them. LOL

There are plenty of conversion programs. I use JetAudio.
