various - LV Hilton, annoyances, 7 Stars

HILTON
First sorry about the Abba post - don't know how it got to VPFree! I
swear I sent it to someone else! I just saw Abba Tribute group at LV Hilton -
Adbacadabra. Good show (a bit loud).

Speaking of LV Hilton - played their Loose Deuces in Sports Book area and
got Deuces. Good paytable but you do have to watch out for the fact that a
lot of your EV is in the deuces, so if you don't get them you can be losing
a lot and losing a lot until (and if) you get the deuces. Those machines
also have a poor 8/5 table DDB, but the good news is it a progressive that
usually is over $5000 and sometimes much higher. There is another 8/5 DDB
progressive in the main area - last week it was over $8600 when I had to
leave - I've never seen it that high. This week it was back down to about
$4600. The LV Hilton has a lot going for it. You are probably better off
with a non-local address for mailers, though locals get mailers for free
shows and minor amounts of cash. My husband and I have been getting good
mailers to our out of town house that are for $50 and $300 respectively (I had
heavy play on VP and $5 reels). The nice thing is with the mailers come 2
free shows and also food ($50 and RFB respectively), and the ability to earn
extra cash if you play more with special coupons - like earn $75 in
cashback, get $75 extra$300 in cashback, get extra $300. Cashback itself is low
(I don't know the percentage). Hilton also has a good variety of reels
and all sorts of VP, and $1 9/6 JB. Another progressive near the front of
the casino is a 3 line progressive with different amounts on each line --
poor paytables, but these progressives can sometimes be decent - 2 lines were
over $7000 this week. The Hilton has several nice dining venues too,
including a good coffee shop, Mexican, Benihanas, Chinese, Noodle Bar,
Steakhouse, Pizza hut quickie, and Italian. They have a number of headline acts
coming and going in between Barry Manilow, plus the lounge acts. My host is
really nice, and VIP check in, if you are eligible, has cookies and drinks.
Locals get a sticker for 25% off food, including their small but good
buffet (excellent salmon, prime rib, shrimp, chicken, etc. in a fairly small
area).

···

-----------------
ANNOYANCE -- Casino that rate ALL play on multigame machines as though
you are playing the best game. For example, at the Palms the stickers are
back on 3/5 play machines with NSU saying "not available for promotions"
(like multiple point days). Even if you play much worse DDB or other games on
these machines, you don't get the promotions. I have a friend who just
complained to me that their Daily Average was very low in Harrah's in Atlantic
City - they play DDB and other poor games, but are playing them on
multigame machines that also have 9/6 JB. Harrah's rates their theoretical based
on the best game on the machine. Some of these multigame machines have
keno, poor BJ, and even slot games on them, but if you play those you are
rated as if you played the best paying game. Why can't they fix this?

ANNOYANCE #2 -- Why do many slots count out 1 2 3 4 5 6 etc as you put in
money, win money etc? This can especially be annoying on penny slots - you
win 1000 coins...instead of adding the 1000 credits you have to 1000 - it
goes 1000, 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004 etc to get to 2000!
Just add the numbers, you numbskull programmers??? I don't understand
why they do this - it just slows down the game, and for casinos - they should
want the machines to play as fast as possible.

ANNOYANCE #3 - Where they put the buttons on some games - for stand up
machines the buttons are too high, as though everyone is standing - but
actually everyone is sitting. And I could mention some of the uncomfortable
stools they have and chairs that cannot be moved at all so there isn't enough
leg room! Argh! (Note to self - you are gambling too much and staying too
long at these uncomfortable machines - why? - argh!)
---------------
SEVEN STARS

In some locations, like Vegas, it can take weeks to get approval from
corporate to get your 7 Star card once you have gone over 100,000 points, but in
others (like Atlantic City) it can be done in 1 day. So if you do get over
100,000, don't expect to automatically get your new card that day.
-----------------
HARRAHS TAHOE

During 7* special event Tahoe promoted its new 7* luxury floor and suites.
Unforutnately apparently there are only something like 26 of them and
usually over 40 7* players on any given weekend, so don't expect to get one
automatically. It all depends on your daily average.

On many machines if you hit the bet or spin button, the counting of the winnings ends immediately and it adds the full amount of credits to your total.

One of the most annoying (to me) occurences frequently encountered while playing VP, is listrning to the loud dinging while a multitude of credits slowly accrues to SOMEONE ELSE'S machine. This is particularly frustrating, when I, playing accurate strategy, cannot complete a trip, and the clueless ploppie sitting next to you has drawn quad aces.

At those times it is necessary for me to exert maximum self-control,
to avoid hitting the other player's max bet button. No matter how
tempted I might be to do so, in the interest of self preservation,
I refrain.

When I'm fortunate enough to see a big hand on my screen, I always immediately hit max bet. I do this for three reasons; 1) I don't necessarily want to share my good news with the other players at
the bank, 2) I don't want to disturb the rhythm of my playby waiting
for the credits to accrue 3) I don't want to listen to the racket.

Do some others feel this way as well?

Sorry Babe,

I sit there and grin while my
machine clangs away and racks up a big hitter.
On the other hand, I do appreciate
everyone who does not annoy me with his or her good luck. That’s awful isn’t it?

Babe:
I feel EXACTLY the same way you do..but I do know(from personal experience) that some people LOVE to hear those credits ringing up..I can't stand it and don't want others around me to know..I even hit the button if I hit a 3ok for a lousy 15 credits so it won't make the noise. I also try to find the quite machines that don't make any noise or are very quiet. Also, I know in the Harrah's properties in my area, if you are Diamond or above, you can ask a slot attendent to come and adjust the machine to make it quieter or louder.

Guilty! On both counts! Although I'd much rather play on a 'silent' machine, I always let the credits add up rather than hit the button. For most (non-Royal) hands, it gives me a chance to take another sip of my ploppie-earned beer. In other cases, like yesterday at SunCoast, it was in the hope that I'd attract the attention of a waitress and get to ORDER a beer. I apologize to the gent a few machines from me who was clearly annoyed by all the ringing. The effort was in vain anyway, so the waitress missed a $100 tip, and I went home beerless but $100 richer. Oh well.

$100.00 tip? Did you hit the RF and feel especially generous or was this a typo and you meant $1.00?

I usually play with the sound at a relatively low volume, assuming it can be adjusted. I do hit the button, especially on a $.25 machine, playing for the max of 30 quarters, when even a pair seems to take forever. But the other day, I was at a non-adjustable machine, where there was no button I could press that would immediately credit the win. It was an old dinosaur, I think Bally's machine, and it was embarrassingly loud. And slow.

But if I do hit a Royal, and the music starts to play, I'm afraid you're just going to have to suck it up and listen to every glorious note!
