All amended tax returns are reviewed by hand (unlike most original returns
which are processed by computer). I would be very careful about amending past
year returns for things which most IRS personnel are not going to be
familiar with. I have gotten a number of people as clients who amended their
returns and it resulted in audits of the original returns. That audit can also
open up other years. Be very careful.
