Using PDA in casino (Was Short term risk of ruin program)

"Frown" is an understatement. If they see you using any type of device in the casino, at the very least you'll be escorted out. If you're using it while playing, it's a felony in Nevada.

Just curious, would it be feasible to install your program on a hand
held programmable calculator, for use inside a casino?

A calculator? Probably not. A PDA, probably yes since I'm sure there
are C compilers available for developers. Don't casinos frown on
computing devices on the floor though?

What's worse, the word "electronic" isn't part of the law.

Technically, if you're playing blackjack and you stack your chips in
a way that could be construed as helping you keep count, they could
prosecute under the "device" law. You might be able to argue
entrapment since the casino provided this "device," but I wouldn't
rely on that to save your hide.

it's a felony for a gambler to use a computer, but not the casino:

I was once threatened with having a pencil I was using (only to write)
in a casino be treated as an "illegal device."

I used a PDA in casinos for 2-3 years, a few years back, and never had
anyone approach me. I used it to record my session stats at the start
and end of each session, and also used it to play mp3 files with
earbuds while playing. I did have Winpoker on it, but if I needed to
use that I would make a trip to the bathroom.

While I was fortunate to never have had a problem, I eventually
stopped using it because I was afraid it was drawing too much
attention to me. While I tried to be discreet, obviously survelience
could see me using it. I decided protecting my future playing the
game was more important than the convenience of using the PDA inside
the casino.

I do use an mp3 player now a lot, and a cell phone. And the cell
phone has a calculator if I need it. Otherwise I rely on
non-electronic means for everything else (pad/pencil, strategy cards,
fanny pack, etc.).

Discreetness is something all expert VP players should strive to
maintain. It took me a while it figure that out, and now I wish I'd
been more careful in the past, and more prudent about sharing good
information too freely.
