USING JOB STRATEGY FOR 10/7 DB

Both FVP and VPSM actually generate strategy CHARTS, as opposed to

CARDS. Printed out, these tend to occupy a full page or two. Bob
Dancer (and others) have done a very nice job, for selected games, of
condensing the CHART information onto pocket-sized CARDS; these
indicate, with very nearly 100 percent accuracy, what to hold.

I use VPSM to print out small strategy cards. I save the files as .rtf files and load them into Microsoft Word where I change the font to a smaller one and insert page breaks as appropriate. We then print them out and my wife cuts them and laminates them so they are about index card size. Works very well and lasts a long time.

I agree that VPSM generates highly-accurate information. But, I'm
curious as to specifically what actions you take against the
generated files. Strategy chart, for db 10/7, follows; I'd be most
interested in specifically how you revise this to produce cards.

What I strive for is to condense the strategies to as few lines as
possible. Without reducing the font, I'm able to comfortably fit the
DB strategy onto two 3x5 index cards, including use of blank lines
that group the strategy into logical sections, making it easier to
reference the cards.

I'd provide a few examples but you've detailed the "advanced" strategy
for DB, which includes rules for penalty cards. If you want to retain
exact handling of penalties, the strategy becomes far more difficult
to condense.

I work with the "basic" strategy when constructing my strategy cards.
That makes them FAR easier to reference. And you gain VERY nominal
additional return by taking penalties into consideration.

That said, there are a handful of limited penalty situations which
account for the greater proportion of all penalties that you'll
account in play.

An example is that when dealt an Ace and a non-suited high card, where
there's no stronger holds present, you hold the lone Ace unless
another card in the hand is similarly suited, in which case you hold
both high cards. (The logic is that when you discard the card that's
from the same suit as the Ace, you have fewer possibilities of forming
a flush than otherwise and the value of holding a second card to go
for a high pair becomes more valuable by comparison to holding just
the lone Ace.)

I've got that subset of penalty rules down cold and automatically
incorporate them into my play without detailing them on the strategy
card. By excluding them from the strategy cards (which makes sense
since I have no need to reference the cards for them) the cards become
far more condensed than they'd be otherwise.

Catching up on posts out of order, I see that Howard has provided an
excellent example. I hope that my post served to provide additional
food for thought.
