I agree, and extend my apologies for extending the thread.
But I hope you'll allow me to offer up a bit of explanatory fluff as
to why, as someone else essentially pointed out to me privately, I
seem to be a little more huffed up about the topic than Native
Americans/Indians themselves.
You just gotta get that having never been to the Caucausus region and
having a complexion that is far from milky white, I'm compelled when
asked on a form for Race to check "Other" and fill in "pale face".

I noticed that my last message did not come through so I am resending it.
In Canada, we do not use the word Indian-we call people who came from India, "East Indian" - we refer to Indians as "Native" not "Native Canadian", just native. It is considered derogatory to call them Indian (in Canada that is). As well we never use the word Eskimo, (it is considered derogatory) we call them "Inuit" . So now I wonder if Native Americans would prefer to be called "Native", as opposed to "Indian" or "Native American".
