Urgently needed - Coast room keys (used ones) - Coast Shuttle system

Coast is changing their shuttles to require people to show room keys before
boarding. We use the Gold Coast-Orleans shuttle all the time (we don't have
a car), and it is much more convenient for us than travel via the public bus
to switch between these 2 properties. The changeover occurred today.

If anyone stays at any Coast property (or has an old key), especially for
Orleans or GC, we could really use the key once you are finished with it!
Please contact me privately if you can spare an old room key!!

Personally I think this is a really stupid decision by the Coasts, since a
lot of people staying on the strip use the shuttles to get out to these
properties. Recently Coast fired all its drivers and went to Bell Limo for buses
and drivers, and that has caused the change. They also are no longer going
directly from Gold Coast to Orleans, but rather having a circular route that
includes the Barbary, which has added to problems. Apparently they have cut
the number of buses, and as a result they have gone to the "key" system.

We were told "room key holders" get on the buses first, if there is any
room, then others can board. During the next 2 weeks the buses will be extremely
busy, due to the National Rodeo Finals in town. So if you don't have a room
key, you probably can't use the shuttle system.

I was actually hoping that the system would be expanded to include South
Coast when it opens. Now it looks like it is being cut way back.

Also the South Coast shuttle route (which always required a room key) has
been cut.

This news is very upsetting to me. I am planning to be in Vegas in 2 weeks and I make several trips to the Orleans and Gold Coast. I have always used the shuttle service. I am unfamiliar with the public transportation system except the 301 bus that takes me downtown. Which bus will I now take to go to the Orleans or Gold Coast? Where will I pick up this bus? It seems to me the Orleans will lose a lot of tourist business by this new decision.

But, isn't this only to let people who are actually staying at Coast casinos first
dibs on getting on the shuttle. Then, if there is room, anyone can get on.

Hey! This seems fair to me. People actually staying at Coast Casinos should
have some priority (Iin my opinion, anyway).

I think it would be wrong to used "borrowed" room keys to get on before
paying guests do.

I am not that knowldegable about these things, but possibly a host
might provide a 'key' or pass to get on the shuttle?

It depends on how you look at it. Who's to say that hotel guests who pay $40/night (as you can book the Orleans online for 12/12) and don't gamble are more valuable than players who don't stay at the hotel and give the hotel significant action?

Take the $40 hotel guest. Let's say they don't gamble and they don't eat on-site. Their contribution to the property is $40.

Now, let's say the non-guest plays reel slots and does $5k in action. Assuming an average 92% hold, the property would theoretically make $400.

So, why is it fair to value the $40 customer ahead of the $400 customer?

Yes, of course!

But, IMHO, the guest has committed and put their money up. The non-guest
going to wherever might not even want to gamble but just to "sightsee" on the
way there, or just peruse the casino.

Yes, it is personal, but I think paying guest should have priority.

I do agree with your mentioning that people playing the machines can have a
host provide a shuttle pass, as appropriate.

P.S. Myself, I would be embarrassed to use a "borrowed" room key.

I'd be emabarrased to use a borrowed key too, but that's not the point.

On a related note, a big question is which department on the property
pays for the shuttle. If the hotel pays for the shuttle, then
restricting access to hotel guests is fine since their cost for the
shuttle is an operating cost (and has to be offset by room revenues).

If the casino is paying for the shuttle, then their cost of the
shuttle is really a marketing cost and the shuttle should be available
to players and prospective players. (In this case, the cost of the
shuttle would be offset by gaming revenues.)

Casinos spend a lot of money trying to lure prospective players into
the property (that's why they have attractions, themes, celebrity
chefs, etc.). Once they get the prospective players on-site, it's up
to the gaming department to convert the lookey-loos into players. If
having a free a shuttle service gets prospective players to the
property, then the marketing expense is justified, regardless of
whether those people actually play.
