Up coming Reno and Lake Tahoe Trip.

Hi. We will be going to Reno next week and will be staying on offer from
Harrahs. Am curious if anyone knows what the current playable inventory is there.
I do not want to burn my bridges and will be playing there. Will also be going
up to Tahoe for several nights and am wondering what the current inventory is
there. Any information on Reno or Tahoe other than inventory is greatly
appreciated. Especially eating in Reno. (Cheeseburger is my husbands middle name.)

It's a shame, but the former decent inventory at Harrah's Reno has
devolved to...crapola. HOWEVER....just toddle across the street to
the Cal-Neva for all sorts of good stuff in all denoms, with a cash-
back slot club to boot.

Again, I would suggest that you play at Cal-Neva; you will get room
offers up the wazoo for $1000 coin-in. Harrah's is tight, tight,
tight.
You also might consider stepping down Virginia St. to the Peppermill
and Atlantis, where the neon lights are bright, the VP is great, and
the slot clubs are run by psychotics.

Harrah's USED to have some great stuff. It's all gone. Harvey's is
equally hopeless since they joined forces. About the best VP is the
Horizon down the street; JOB and NSUD with a strong cashback and
mailer program. I get $100 free play and two free nights from them
every month from a weekend spent playing TP NSUD. Forget Caesar's or
Bill's, BTW.

Try to drive the Mt. Rose Hwy (NV 431) into Tahoe rather than
Spooner Summit (Hwy 50). You can access it at the far south end of
Virginia St. or at the south terminus of the 395 freeway. The views
are nothing short of spectacular.

Do I have a hot tip for you! Right in the middle of downtown, on the
west side of Virginia St. sits a tiny little casino called the
Nugget; in the back of which sits a restaurant; which serves
the "Awful-Awful" 24 hours a day; $3.50 with enough fries to feed a
small village. Your husband will shed tears of gratitude.
Best casino coffee shop: Peppermill. The only trouble is that
everyone else thinks so too. Be prepared to wait.
Best breakfast: Heidi's on So. Virginia. Eat here if you want a
breakfast that'll last through lunch.
Best food overall: Eldorado. Great food, even in the buffet.
Terrific coffee shop with eclectic menu and great desserts.

In Tahoe, Burger Dude should check out Izzy's Burger Spa on US 50
about 3 miles into California from Stateline on the lake side of the
street. In my humble opinion, this is the second best burger I've
ever had.

(the best ever was at the Grand Lux Cafe at the Venetian; $10 and
WORTH IT.)

Have fun up there; it's a GREAT time of year to go. I'm envious.

really bad smell and I swear some of the customers are gambling
their last dollar. I like greasy spoons but the Cal-Neva is beyond
a greasy spoon, I would call it a krappy spoon.

Just so I can get a handle on the Cal-Neva, how would you compare it
to the smells, customers and food at the El Cortez?

I go to both places frequently. A few years ago I would have rated
the El Cortez greasier. Since they have made improvments, the CalNeva
has that "honor." The bad smell eminates from that snack bar, which
they should either shut down or close the grill portion. I agree it
stinks, however, you can avoid the smell by confining your play to the
other building. The CalNeva upgraded their rooms a few years ago and
the ElCortez is doing an ugrade now. As to the environment outside
the casino, the ElCortez is definitely worse. However, I wouldn't
worry about either place. The food at both places is pretty good.
The Virginian Steakhouse at the CalNeva is very good as is Robertas at
the ElCortez. Kareful Kittys at the El and the 2 coffee shops at
CalNeva are ok to good.

If your husband is up to a challenge, stop by Bills at Lake Tahoe.
Bills is between Harrahs and Caesars. At their road house cafe, they
have a HUGE one pound hamberger. If you are able to eat the whole
thing, they take your picture, and place it on the wall. I was there
earlier this week, and I can say it is a challenge.
