The penalty associated with an unsuited nine in one of these hands is
actually marginally greater than that of a low card suited with the
jack.
However, an unsuited nine penalty will occur less than half as often
as a low flush penalty, so I can agree with Harry Porter (message
28877), that if you're going to remember only one rule, the low flush
one is better.
