The disturbing fact for me was not being shut out of the drawing,
but their attitude. They didn't care. They were packed. People would
come back no matter how poorly they were treated. Saying "too bad" was
the easiest solution with no consequences. Would anyone have a case if
they brought this complaint to Gaming Control?
It isn't because I won one of the $1,000 that I give kudos to the Palms. In
previous drawings and in this one, you have I believe 1 and 1/2 minutes to
claim your win. You must go to the staging area with your card and picture ID.
Last night was bedlam with the crowd that I believe violated fire regs for
blocking the door areas, etc. When my number was called I was near the pizza
food concession. By the time I made my way to the staging area and was "let
through" by the crowd, it was past the allotted time. Of course, I was already
shouting from afar that I was a winner as I tried to make my way to the
microphone area.
Others were trying to do the same thing. It was close to five minutes before
the honcho in charge accepted 9 of the 10 claimants who had finally reached
the stage and then drew an 11th number. In this phase they did not go by the
letter of the law but used common sense in "bending their procedure" to let the
winning people make their way through the crowd.
On nights such as these, be advised that even getting a parking space before
the 7 p.m. drawing would also be quite difficult. The event was not well
planned by management.
