Two disturbing articles on casino gambling

The primary reason I posted that link is to see who would catch the Lederer
comment. Good job!

I tend to think that he was probably misquoted. Hard to believe that a
man of that intelligence, who spends plenty of time in casinos, wouldn't
understand how erroneous the statement is.

In the above link (or except below) Howard Lederer says "video poker,
unlike regular poker,is a misnomer; it is a game of chance governed by a
machine." What do others in the group think of this statement?

"A poker player -- unlike someone playing roulette, a lottery or "video
poker" (which Lederer says is a misnomer; it is a game of chance governed by
a machine) -- is trying to apply skill, acquired by experience, to increase
the probability of winning each hand."

And while I'm at it, here's another interesting article - an op-ed by
columnist George Will on the issue of Internet poker:

I think the comment makes sense. The most essential part of poker is the
betting, not the cards. The "skill" involved in VP is simply picking the
right cards given the draw. That's part of draw poker, but you wouldn't go
far at a table if all you did was play the draw correctly.
