I saw something interesting at an online casino and was wondering if
anyone has seen it in a bricks and mortar one. Several online
casinos using the new Viper version of Microgaming's software offer
an "expert" mode on video poker.
Essentially the software selects the best cards to hold in order to
maximize the expected value out of all possible holds. From what I
can tell it is playing all of the hands properly. The effect is to
turn the video poker game into a glorified slot machine -- there is
nothing to do except push deal and draw. I wonder if this could
become a trend?
Among the best games I have found are a 99.37% version of Dueces
Wild and 99.54% JOB. Obviously these are negative expectation games,
but combined with significant bonuses for deposits, they can be
profitable.
BTW, I hit the first natural royal flush of my relatively modest
video poker career! It was both welcome and overdue. Hopefully there
wont be any problem cashing in my winnings!
