Thanks, Rick, for your reply to my post. Especially appreciate the advice that Sheraton was the best Harrah's property for video poker. The shuttle does go from Harrah's Veranda to the Horseshoe on the half-hour, and the Sheraton is located right next to the Horseshoe. We did rent a car, and appreciated the flexibility, as well as the ability to go other places. We did work in an outing to the Riverwalk Park, and did the river boat cruise, with just beautiful weather. We also enjoyed the museum there at the park. We had planned on walking the trail, but at 5:30 pm we were just swarmed with mosquitoes, so we gave up on that idea.
Gambling at the Sheraton was great. We only found 6 of the 18 machines mentioned in vpfree2.com, that were near full pay, but even though there were only 6 machines, we never had a problem finding 3 open seats! But, as of 11/15/2009 at 10:00 pm, they were going to shut the machines down in order to move them to another location in the casino. They told us that they were not going to do anything to change the games or the paytables. We hope this is true, as we really enjoyed playing them, although the glare of the lights on the screens were terrible, so hopefully there may be an improvement in the new location.
Sheraton is having a special promotion for those over age 55, where you get $55 in free play after you've earned 555 points. Not sure how long the promotion is going on - maybe to the end of November? Also, they have a promotion that I think begins 11/16, where if you earn I think 200 points, you qualify for a free turkey to be picked up on 11/23 or 11/24. Also, if you earned 200 more points, you got other stuff to cook the turkey in, and if you earned 50 points (I think) on the day you pick up the turkey you get a Paula Deen pie. I'm sorry that we live in Michigan and can't participate, because it seems like a great promotion.
We enjoyed all of the buffets, we had dinner at the Paula Deen buffet at Harrahs Tunica (seafood on Friday night), we had champagne brunch at the Sheraton both on Saturday and on Sunday, and we had the buffet dinner on Saturday at the Horseshoe, and on Sunday at the Sheraton. We had no complaints whatsoever at any of these buffets.
The best deal was the champagne brunch at the Sheraton for $3.99 on Saturday and Sunday, and the dinner was $4.99.
Also, I'd like to note that there are tours that are accessible from the casino. My mom took the "Memphis City Tour" and really enjoyed it. All in all, a great time.
