Tunica Trip Report

Just returned from Tunica on Saturday. We had a great time. The weather was really comfortable, sunny and low 70's. We arrived there last Wednesday afternoon (drove from the Chicago area). It takes us about 81/2 hrs. with two stops. We stayed at Harrahs Veranda Hotel (formerly The Grand). It was the only Harrahs property that would comp me 3 nights. I loved the hotel, it was very pretty and the rooms were very nice. We checked in and then drove over to the Sheraton to play. One of their best games is Super Aces which I started to play and after probably less than 10 minutes I hit a royal. I always start out playing .25 but a $1,000.00 added to my bankroll was nice. For supper, we went over to the Horseshoe and after you play for 30 minutes you are entitled to a free buffet and they do not take any off your points. I think that their buffet is one of the best in Tunica.
The next morning we went back to the Sheraton and I started playing .50 DDB and hit 4 Aces with a kicker and then after a short while another royal. We then decided to visit Resorts (every time we go we visit 1 new casino). I played one machine for a short time, moved to a different one, threw in a bunch of 5's that I had in my wallet and started playing deuces. Within 10 minutes, I hit another royal. I couldn't believe it! That night I treated my fiance to dinner at 37 (Harrah's steakhouse). It was excellent. I had the sea bass with seared scallops. Delicious!
On Friday morning, we went back to the Sheraton and I hit 4 Aces playing .50 Super Aces. That afternoon, we took a boat ride on the Tunica Queen (1 1/2 hr. cruise on the Mississippi). That was so relaxing, I almost fell asleep. Friday evening we went to Paula Deen's seafood buffet at Harrahs. We went early (everything was hot and fresh). I thought it was really good and I ate way too much. We played a little more at the Sheraton while listening to a pretty good band. We left early on Saturday (good thing because rain and storms were moving in). I would definitely stay at the Veranda Hotel again. I would like to go in the summer and use their outdoor pool and my fiance said he would like to golf at The Cottonwoods golf couse (right along side the hotel). We are going to Lake Tahoe in July for our wedding. Hopefully, the luck will continue. Many royals to all of you. Evelyn

Just a few quick comments. First, congratulations on all the Royals and other good hits. This game is a lot more fun when the good hands show up from time to time

I agree the Veranda and the sister hotel across the parking lot at the Grand are very nice. For whatever reason, I've never had the chance to stay at their third hotel which is attached to the casino.

The Sheraton does have a good inventory of VP games, but I've been told (and it has also been my experience) that they set the theoreticals extremely tight on their best machines. In other words, play on these machines won't generate much in the way of future offers.

Also agree with you about the H'shoe buffet. It's been a while, but the last time I was there is was excellent.

Is Resorts still open? I thought they were closed or were going to close.

Here's a nit picky off topic hint to remember that you can use to impress your fiance: Golfers say they are going to "play" or "play golf" at such and such course. They don't say they're going to "golf" somewhere  Oh, and Cottonwoods is a very fine course. Your fiance would enjoy playing there.

If you haven't been to Lake Tahoe yet, the scenery is fantastic.

---Harrahs Casino Tower is reserved for higher theo players. Depending on the weekend, it can sometimes take a four figure ADT to get in the house.

The Sheraton does have a good inventory of VP games, but I've been told (and it has also been my experience) that they set the theoreticals extremely tight on their best machines. In other words, play on these machines won't generate much in the way of future offers.

---You're correct. On most days Sheraton is a waste of time unless mail is not a consideration.

Also agree with you about the H'shoe buffet. It's been a while, but the last time I was there is was excellent.

---Still worth a visit but not nearly what it used to be back when Jack was running the show.

Is Resorts still open? I thought they were closed or were going to close.

---It's open but is on a serious downward slide. Colony has sunk almost nothing into the hotel which is quickly falling to Econo Lodge standards. There used to a decent play there...until "The Destroyer" came to town..lol

If you haven't been to Lake Tahoe yet, the scenery is fantastic.

---There should be a law against discussing visual appeal when both Tunica and Tahoe are in the conversation...lol.
