Tunica JOB

No question about Gold Strike being the best for JOB players. Thanks to Linda at Tunica VP for advising us of this.

The combination of the game, fairly clean and fast slant tops, AT THE BAR! tolerable music (most of the time!) and fairly easy meal and hotel comps plus decent cashback puts it first. Worst thing is their easy policy re comp drinks often has the bar stools full of personnel from other casinos just bs'ing and not playing and occasionally making it difficult to get a machine and also often being distracted by a lot of conversations amongst groups of people who know each other and are apparently glad to see each other!

Sheraton probably has a better variety of other games but since i'm a relative newbie to VP I stick to JOB, at this time. Plus Sheraton is TIGHT on any type of comp. Hollywood is very good re comps but those 3 JOB are hard to get on to and miserable to play, they should upgrade to at least a few fast slant top machines spread amongst all the new fangled slot bandits they have.

Just got back late last night from two days in Tunica. Didn't have any
luck at all. In fact, this was the most expensive trip for me in
memory, although I'm still very satisfied. Room and all meals were
comped, and between my wife and I, we only spent about $160 or so, and
that includes tip money, too. My wife was having much better luck, so
_I_ was the one who lost nearly all of that, and it was disappointing
when I can still remember my trip a couple of months ago when I only
spent only about $30 in two days, including tip money. Oh well, we
still had a great time and it was cheap entertainment.
Now, about the vp; all we play is JoB, so I never checked the inventory
for other games.
Hollywood still has only 3 JoB-9/6 uprights (quarters) ... still in the
same place; the bars still have JoB-8/5 progressives. I forgot to check
the Multistrike paytables to see if they have improved; the last I
checked, they were not worth playing, although I can't recall now
exactly what they were.
Horseshoe is still a disgrace re JoB. As far as I could tell, all of
their machines are still only JoB-6/5, which is what they were reduced
to about a year or so ago. Even the Multi-strike is JoB-6/5.
I am happy to confirm the report posted by someone else, a month or so
ago, that Goldstrike (right next door to the Horseshoe) has, indeed,
upgraded their bar machines to include JoB-9/6. That's right -- quarter
JoB-9/6 with the comfort and room and convenience at the bar; that is my
new favorite casino. The multi-strike still has JoB-7/5.
Cheers.

The bar games were great. The music was mostly middle-aged guys
recapturing their youth by playing classic rock (Beatles, CCR, Stealy
Dan, etc etc). What I heard was a little loud, but generally very
good. Drinks were free & easy. In the evening, it was hard to find a
seat, & a couple of times I had to resort to the upright VP (same
games offered) instead.

One big negative to the Gold Strike. At one point, I left my machine
to get lunch, & within 2 minutes realized that I had left $60 of
credits on the bartop machine. When I got back, someone was playing
them. I asked him about my credits, & he said he'd just sat down, put
in his own money, & didn't notice any credits in the machine.

When I brought over the head of security, he said that if I left the
machine, I'd given up the credits, that he'd do nothing about it, &
in fact he accused me of lying. I then went to the floor boss, who
said that of course she could look at the records (both me & the
thief had used slot cards). She did so & told me that her computer
showed that after I got up, the other guy had played my credits
*without* putting his own money in, & had lied to me & the security
head.

When I told my slot host that this guy had stolen my credits, she
said, "Yes, I know we have people like that who hang out here." The
floor boss did offer me & my friend a meal comp, & the host comped my
final room night. Both were nice to me, & said they couldn't do
anything more. My friend & I ended up with 4 comped room nights, a
comped buffet & comped steakhouse dinner. We'd combined for ~$7K coin-
in/day, so I don't know how much of this comping is their usual
policy, & how much was in consideration of my being robbed.

So in spite of all the positives about Gold Strike, I should warn
that there are low-lifes there who steal credits, that the management
knows about this & chooses to do nothing, & that the head of security
was particularly unhelpful.

The other thing was that the VIP desk was consistently clueless. For
instance, my host had given me 3 (of 4) nights comped up front, but
when I arrived, they only showed 1 night comped. This was repeated
several times; each time I went to the VIP desk to see what I'd been
charged & what my comps would cover, they didn't get it right. They
were consistently pleasant, but often not so helpful.

So I'd recommend, for instance, that people get a comp for each meal
in advance from the VIP desk. If you charge it to the room & try to
get the VIP desk to comp it afterwards, it's quite possible that they
won't be able to figure it out.

It's not just Gold Strike that has roving credit theives. Blaw reported
it at Horseshoe and a bartender at Sam's told me about some "regulars".
I never thought of that as advantage of playing at the bar, but I had a
bartender protect $240 in credits I had abandoned, eventually calling
security to cash them out and hold them. I actually got the money back
more than an hour later when I remembered and went screaming back for
it.

Sorry to hear about the theft Stu.

To answer your question, $7K per day is normally enough to get LRFB
at GS. I think they would've comped you without the theft issue.

I've played at around the $5K/day level at GS in the past and gotten
room and coffee shop/buffet comped.

Room and meal comps in Tunica are so easy, it's almost hard for a non-
Tunica regular to believe the ease at which the casinos comp down
there.

IMO, one of the big downsides to the GS is the volume setting of the
slot machines. Not only do the ding ding ding, but they have the
buzzers also set to go off at almost any win. It is, by far, the
loudest casino in Tunica.
