Triple Double VP

There is a table in Royer's recent book that is fairly useful because
it lists the pay schedules of the "best" games, return wise. At the
top of his list is "Triple Double" with a return of 102.57%.

He lists the pay schedule in this format:
400-400-160-80-50-50-9-7-4-2-1-1

However, I don't get 102.57% using WinPoker. Is there a Triple
Double game that returns 102.57%? If so, what does the pay schedule
look like?

If you accurately reported the list that is printed in Royer's book, then he is wrong a couple of ways. I presume that this is the same book that you have already discovered to contain many errors, as you stated in post number 25444 -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vpFREE/message/25444 -- so I wouldn't count on Royer being right about this, either. I did check the pay schedule that you gave below (incidentally, either you or he left out one of the pays, because there are supposed to be 13 paytable lines, and in addition, one of the big hands is severely shorted in the paytable list that you provided, i.e., there are not two hands that pay 400 betting units, as you indicated, but rather 800. Using the 'full pay' list that appears in vpFree's glossary, listed below, my WinPoker program generated an ER of 99.5778% versus the glossary's 99.58% rounded figure, so I'm confident that that is the correct ER. I experimented a little by changing a few values, and I have NOT been able to obtain a value of 102.57% as you said Royer has indicated.

Royer's list: 400-400-160- 80- 50-50- 9-7-4-2-1-1
vpFree's " : 800- 50-800-400-160-80-50-9-7-4-2-1-1

Sorry, but I think you really got ripped off with that book.

With Triple Double, I think some people make the
mistake of forgetting to set Three of a Kind to 2
(instead of the usual 3) in WP/Frugal when they
calculate the return. I think that makes it come out
to somewhere around 103%.

Too bad the real machines aren't set this way... :>

I set the 3ofK to 3, instead of 2, and the return computes as 107%!
The table in Royer's book is simply wrong. Did anyone edit that
book? It doesn't appear so. Not only is the return wrong, but he
actually typed the pay schedule incorrectly in his table. And in the
body of the book he extoles this as a game that's great, although not
offered in every casino. I'd say .. in NO casino ... it doesn't even
exist at 102.57%.

The actual return is 99.57%. So far I've counted 15 of these games
in the SunCoast.
