I was just in Laughlin a week ago and have a couple of things to
point out.
Stayed at the Edgewater and played video poker there and the
Colorado Belle. Lost a few hundred playing their quarter JOB and
FPDW.
The database mentions that the Colorado Belle has quarter 8/5 Bonus
Poker progressive machinces at the Bars. I found that they were
shorted 7/5 and the Progressives were three ways (Royal, Straight
Flush and 4 Aces). That was a disappointment to me because one of
my favorite games is 8/5 Bonus Poker with a five way progressive.
You can still find these in St. Louis and Reno.
Anyway the Edgewater FPDW machines were very old. Attendants paid
all jackpots or cashouts over 500 coins. In fact once you went
beyond 400 credits the machine would start spitting out quarters.
Many of the machines are in bad shape with sticky buttons or they
have no sound or both. These machines also have full pay versions
of Bonus Deluxe, Double Bonus and JOB. The newer machines that have
ticket in and out systems do not have full pay video poker which is
a disturbing trend.
Edgewater also gives comps along with cashback but the comps are
based on daily points. You have up to 12 hours to use your comp
points or they expire but apparently these comp points do not take
away from your cash back points. Overall I found their point system
confusing. Often the card readers showed you had more points than
the slot club booth had for you. Twice I went up to the slot club
booth and they told me had fewer points than what the slot card
reader was telling me. The first time the slot club booth person
told me their computers were slow the second time the slot club
booth person said you couldn't trust the Slot Club readers. If that
is the case someone should tell the Mandalay Bay corporation that
their computers are faulty (Edgewater is part of the One Club
Mandalay Bay system).
Good thing about the Edgewater and Laughlin in general is that they
have cheap Craps. You can play craps for a dollar at Edgewater at
5x odds. The Golden Nugget has $2 craps at 10x odds. I cashed in
by winning over a hundred in craps. It was my first time playing. I
figured it would be a good place to learn with the cheap minimums.
Our trip to Laughlin was interesting. You gotta love good VP and
cheap Craps and Blackjack but the food choices in town are limited.
Our hotel room had moths in it.
We went to Laughlin as a side trip to for our vacation in San
Diego. I had a ACG $20 coupon to stay at the Edgewater. We stopped
at Valley View Casino near San Diego but could not find the quarter
8/5 Bonus Poker listed in the database anywhere. I did see $1 Bonus
Poker. They also have nickel 3/5/10 play 8/6 an 9/5 JOB which was
good for some low roller fun. Why they couldn't decide if they
wanted 9/5 ir 8/6 JOB is beyond me.
