Well I made it back from Laughlin ok (Oct 20-27), staying at the
CB.
I really lucked out on the weather, having just missed the rain,
but I saw the puddles alongside the highway while driving down
from Vegas. The hi temps were in the 80's. Maybe one day even
91 or 92.
I rented a car, getting a compact for the full week for $144
including taxes.
My games are blackjack and 25¢ JOB. The first day there I won
two straight flushes within the first 5-10 minutes at the CB sports
bar, and that really spoiled me because nothing substantial
came after that for the rest of the visit. There were lots of
periods where I got a lot of play though.
I did most of my playing at the CB...there was an abundance of
9/6 JOB, but I did get a couple of surprises while I was down
there. Last spring when I played at the Belle, it seemed to me
that the River Bar paybacks were 8/5 but they were 9/6 this time
along with the sports bar. Also, at the EW Rivers Edge bar I
found 9/6 and don't remember seeing that last spring. Also at
the Flamingo I found a bank of draw poker machines that were
also 9/6 not too far from the north wall of the casino. Maybe I'm
the last one to know this because I've only joined this group
recently.
I also played most of my blackjack at CB but that may've been a
mistake because they routinely only have double deck or higher
and one can only dd on 10 or 11, while at the Flamingo you can
dd on any first two cards at their double deck. I may consider
staying at the Flamingo next trip.
I saw the Smothers Brothers at the Riverside on the 25th
(opening night) and I tell you, I laughed so hard my stomach was
still sore the next morning. I could even feel my cheeks hurt I
was laughing so hard. Tears were coming to my eyes. I think
they're in their 70's now, but they still haven't lost their touch.
I ate a couple of meals at Harrah's buffet...both were very good.
Also had the prime rib dinner at the Regency and it was very
good. Had the seafood buffet Friday night at the CB and it was
good. Only thing is, this isn't really crab season I guess and
while the crab was good it wasn't coming out of the shell like it
usually does. Had some "ok" ribs at Mark Twain's.
In spite of the not-so-terrific luck gambling on this trip, boy what a
time to be there weather-wise.
