I do not post much but always read the board and trip reports. I have
played video poker for 20 years and I could not begin to count the
millions of hands I have played over the years and have never been
lucky enough to hit a Royal on the deal.....until this trip.
I took my annual post tax season sabbatical to Las Vegas from
Baltimore on 4/19/07. Flight left on time and arrived early which I
though was a good omen. I traveled with a fellow CPA who when we get
to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year it is mostly a 16 hour per day gambling
barrage for 3 or 4 days.
The flight arrived around 10:30 PM and it did not seem to matter that
it was 1:30 AM Baltimore time. The first 3 nights of my trip were at
Green Valley Ranch. We gambled until about 3:00 AM (Vegas time) and I
was wondering why I played so much the first night until a first
occured. I was ready to call it a night and down to about 200 credits
on a quarter Super Times Pay (my game of choice) when it dealt my my
first dealt royal. The sweet $ 3,000 was going to fund my trip and
hopefully take a good chunk home. Unfortunately that was the last big
hit for my stay at GVR. I did leave there up though for my next 2
nights at Red Rock. I also managed to finish in the money in the
Millionare Maker VP tournament at Rio for a grand total of $ 100.00
On to Red Rock. I thought I really liked GVR until I got to Red Rock.
What a gorgeous bright casino with great LCD monitors on all of the
machines. The only thing I did not like was the chairs with the high
backs, although I have not seen a chair that is comfortable after a
couple hours play. I was still in the feeding mode hitting enoght
quads to keep me above water. The last night (tentatively) I found a
couple of ten cent 5-play MultiStrikes where you could play 10
credits instead of 5. I love this game but the 100 credits per play
are a bit much. If want to play I usually play 3 columns instead of
5 and it only $ 15.00 per hand (only...haha), but with this 20 cent
machine I tried it for $ 12.00 bucks a hand. It let me play for a
while and then I get a couple lines to the top level and it deals me
3 Aces, a pretty exciting draw on the 8X pay line. Hit the draw and
on the last hand the beautiful A3 filled in the set. i am trying in
my mind to compute the win when the $ 3,281 hand pay lit up the
machine.
I was actually going to go home with more money that I came with. I
decided to invest my fortune in a Super Times Pay ten play, which I
usually play when I am ahead. I figured I would put $ 200.00 in it
and see what happens. In two hands I had it over $ 1,000. The nice
hit was a straight flush on the deal for a cool $ 625.00. I said to
myself play it down to $ 800.00 and take the profit. I kept hitting
on it and then it happened again, a dealt Royal. This was my biggest
single hit ever $ 10,000. I was so much in shock I forgot to ask for
a check and they brought me over a nice band of $ 100's.
My 21 year old daughter, who spent most of the trip in the Poker
Room, called and asked me if we could stay an extra night. She did
not know about me hits and was surprised when I said OK after about
10 milliseconds. She one a holdem tournament with about 70 people in
it at the Strat in July when she just turned 21. A bunch of the guys
in that tournament were in the WSOP so I thought that was
unbelievable to win that tournament when it was the first time she
ever played a live tournament.
I hope you enjoyed my first ever trip report and look forward to keep
reading yours. My most profiatble gambling trip ever and I can't
wait to get back in June or July. If I am lucky, I will be there for
one of your luncheons so I can meet some of the people I enjoy
reading about.
I am trying to have pictures of these hits posted in the pictures
section.
Take care and hit the Royals
