Trip Report - Oct 2007 - Silver

Hey all -
Trip report this time is a compilation of my daily summaries to friends.
I use the lobby internet kiosk. A $5 bill gets me 16 min and 40 sec. of connect time.

Day 1 Friday: Travel smooth. checked a bag rather than showoff my 'gels'
to the sicko TSA idjits. had to share my limo <sigh> with two
ladies <yay> who were talkative and in party mode. but they didn't check in
at the VIP check-in, so pah, no follow-up.

Got gamin within an hour, met my goal. Corner suite again, 3 days
free, 4th at casino rate comes off my comp balance, which
started out about $450, but now approaching the $600 max. Will
go shopping for clothes.

Day 1 gaming saw me generally stick to my plan. Plan has loss limits at denoms and
games from 25c up to $2. Hit quad 2's on
FPDW uprights which got moved from the alcove to a quiet South wall, East
corner. Also got 5 of a kind Aces on the FPJW at Keno wall.
Pretty hand: AAJkrAA. Symmetry- appeals to math guy. Ended the day up $100 at
about 4AM. Yawn. Collected $100 bonus at cashier. Some other
$250 and $200 mini-jackpots in the summary.

Day 2 had me generally on the plan, but I didn't get underway
until 3:30PM and took an hour + 1/2 room break about 6:00. three
200 and 3 125 quads before hitting quad Aces on $1 Bonus poker
for $400. Hummin long nice. Went into negative territory for the
1st time on the trip about 11PM, when I hit 3 DEALT quads in
short order playing $1 DDB. Only +$200 on that session. After
dropping 200 on 50c 3-play DDB on the mezzanine, I switched to 50c 5-play DDB.
Got dealt the 4 part Royal. That made it about 42 4-parters on
the trip. One came in on the 1st line for $2000. YAY. I have to
get a Royal, it seems.

Piddle a lot of it away, but stil up $300 on the day as I write
this on the way to the room (3AM).

Looking forwrd to tomorrow. Man there are a lot of folks in
costume walkin around, and the mini-skirts. Oy. I think the slutty look is IN this year.
Negative EV. (heh heh)

Cheers. Thanks in advance to the house-sitter/kitty duty
contingent back in Seattle.

oh yeah- snagged the extra 150 cash for getting 600 pts, which
probably happened late night Fri or early Sat.

Day 3: had a good sleep and got gaming by 12:45.

dribbled down in bankroll, but slowly and quite tolerably. even a quad A
sans kicker for 200 in 25c DDB 3-play and a dealt SF for 250 in
$1 ACE$BP single line couldn't bring me back.

dinner at 5:30 at Sterling- porterhouse medium/melt in my mouth
was great. down 700 but not concerned.

kept the post dinner even with a couple nice quads in a short 50c
DDB X 3 session. but tanked another 600 playing 25c and 50c DDB
5-play. back to 50c 3X DDB about 9:15PM, got a quad A for 400
and a dealt quad Jacks for 125 times 3 shortly after, netting me
600 and down about 1000 on the day. I felt like a break so I
did a host-walk-by to see if he was there.

He was. nice chat, and he even made a phone call to get me moved
up to Baron level. Yee Haaa. that ups my max comp balance from
600 (which I'm very close to) to $900. Plus I get 3 nights of room are free. whatever.
status i suppose. Requires about 2000 pts ($40K coin-in per day trip average over 3
consec trips.

headed over to sports book area. I found a game to play on the
MG bank- Triple bonus plus. Paid 250 for normal quads (got 2),
300 for quad 2,3,4 (got 1) and $600 (!) for quad As- (got 1 !).
finished the 50c coin session +$1000. back to even on the day.

settled back to 25c level, gonna try The Plan as written.
crapped out $200 at 25c BP/DW/JW/DDB total. Playing 3X DDB
for 25c, I got dealt 2244x. tossed the 44x, and hit quad 2s w/A
kicker +200 !. alas even.

about even for trip to here.

day 4.
refreshed again on the snooze, gamin about 11:15.
decided to stick to plan again. last night was the $200 lost on
25c singlle line (SL). today early I sailed thru to the $1 BP
level too fast.

But the good news for a while is I spent about 4 hrs at the $1
level. A 7/5 Bonus poker at the foot of the escalator had
suited progs. the clubs was maxed out at $10,000 ! and I hunted.
Dog will hunt. Highlights: 2 SFs for 250 ea. one was the teaser
9TJQK. held KQT9. sweated the 9. who's to know. the diamond RF
was "only" 4300 or so. Also, two quad As for $400 ea. ALas, I
ended up losing the $400 allocated for this game. then down 400
on $1 DDB.Time to eat. Down 1600 on the day/ OOf dah.

16oz prime rib at Sterling and most of a choc chip cheesecake
dessert. <burp>

Oh I forgot- for a break I went shopping to get my comp balance
down. It was maxing out at $600. Spent $135 on booze (Rum & B-52
makings- house drink stockage back to full). then
impulsively bought a leather jacket, black with Silver Legacy logo
for $250 at the gift shop. I'll be stylin'.

onto the next phase of progression after a room break and
boarding pass printout at the bell. 7:30. $1 DDB 3-play. wish I
had some hi-lights but the $400 vanished in 15 min. poof. onto $2
ACE$BP.

quads score 250 here & I hit 3. Also a SF for $500. But
10PM-ishI'm out the 400 for this level, unable to make up the 2000 I'm down. The final
step is 800 on 3-play $2 DDB. Full houses are $100 here and I scored 5 of
them, but the bleeding down to tap-out-sville was profuse and
painlessly quick. Ugh. This game has made my day or broken my bank.

Cash machine $500 took me up to midnite, playin 25c, and a final
gasp of down 150 on $1 BP.

looks like a trip to Peppermill to collect 200 freeplay will be
worth the taxi ride tomorrow.

Day 5:
Today started out smooth. I prepack the night before a
check-out, it helps me get to sleep knowin I can get up and get
out quick on check-out day. So, I take my bags to the bell desk
at 10:45AM and I'm shootin the breeze with the two guys there.
The place is slow, almost dead. I mention that I got to take a
run up to Peppermill to collect some free play money. I guess I
was feelin' them out to see if I could limo up instead of taxi.
The guy jumped on it before I could ask! He says we can take
you up there! So, I hop in the limo, talk the driver into
hangin' out for the ten minutes max it'll take me to play out my
$200 freeplay. He drops me off at the Oceano entrance and waits
in a parking aisle. I jump on the bank of machines right inside
the doors, insert card, punch in PIN, move balance to game and
it reads (!!) $370 !! I ask no questions and play $1 coin Bonus
poker for about 7 minutes. I hit quad 9s for $125 while I was at
it. When my balance was $525, I cashed it out, it gave me only
$520 so my estimate was only one hand short to play the money thru once (that's 74
hands @ $5 per) ! Play and lose that
$5, redeem my ticket & I head outdoors, jump in the limo and back to
Silver (tip=$25) all smiles. No extra cash withdrawals for me.
I hope and figure. It's 11:30AM as I reward myself with a $100
budget to play $1 BP at the foot of the escalator.

the Club RF is still at $10,000, an inordinately powerful
impetus to play this 7/5 version of what should be 8/5. But, if
you hit quads, the pay's the same. I hit quad 2s for $200, quit
it up $100. Important for a guy with only $600 in his wallet.

back to quarters and safe turf. +100 on JW, even on the mens
room DDB (despite quad 4 for 100 and a dealt quad 5 for $62) and
plus 100 on 5c JoB 50-play thx to some dealt trips and
two-pairs.

I lose $200 on the $1 BP ('10K'), lose $100 on a 25c coin-dropper
that has a 99.7% EV game - Super DB - it's with that circular
bank of 25c DDB prog coindroppers in the SW corner. Lose
another 100 on $1 ACE$BP, and -100 on 25c Tpl Bonus plus - a
99.8% EV version I discovered in the SE corner.

Then, a sweet up session on 25c DDB - no kickers for the nth
time this trip, but quad As for 200 and quad 4s for 100, up 200
for the session. Up 450 on the day (350 of that is cash bonus
from pepps)

I hit a quad wild 2s on the DW for 250, up 200 session, but gave
it back to the $1 BP with the suited progs.

I'm hearin a lot of clankety-clank and it's all the cowboys are
wearin' their spurs! Weird. must do a number on the chair legs.

down 150 on the 25c DDB mens room. I decide to play 5-play DDB 25c
upstairs. not 3-play, 'cuz that's where I lost a bundle
yesterday. 5-play is better. go figure. I go plus 200 for the
session with quad 3 and quad 4s, no kicker, dammit, for 100 ea.

It's 6:10PM, my limo ride is at 6:30, so I have the idea to play
25c Wheel of Fortune slots the remainder of my time. relax,
enjoy my stogie and sip a dbl baileys. I get my first "spin
wheel" symbol a few minutes into the session. I press the
button, the wheel stops and the payoff starts coming. I didn't
even look up until the credits kept coming- it had stopped at
1000 ! it never stops at 1000. it stops at the 40 or the 100
NEXT to the 1000, just to give you the what-if thrill. +$250.
I play it another 5 minutes, but I quit it up $250. I gotta try
that dang $1 BP and hit that dang $10K Royal on the way out.
Down $100. Dang. no RF.

You can imagine that every 4RF I got yesterday and today was a
big deal. I'm sure I had 3 4-part RFs in clubs on that $1 BP.
One of them was today and I nearly soiled myself. And I seemed to
get just a few more dealt 4RFs than usual. Man. Well, at least
one of them came in on day 2.

Up $600 on the day. quick 50c 7/5 DDB session at the airport,
even. Flight was about 1/3 full. There was a "hard" Soduko in
the Southwest magazine which I hammered thru. OK, I started it
on the trip down and finished it on the way back.

And watch for these at the airports: maybe you've seen them
elsewhere, but Reno has these HUGE vending machines now. They
sell ipods, cell phones, PDAs, electronica. Just swipe yer
credit card. And don't punch "E3" if you wanted the thing in
E2. might be a $50 "OOPS" and you get an electronic pet dog
instead of that ipod.

Alcove across from Sterling: GONE. walled over while I was
there. there's gonna be some sort of bar and waiting room for
Sterling restaurant patrons. Might have machines in there, not sure. THe
DW are downstairs as reported earlier.

Great to be back. I needed that leather jacket for the drive from airport shuttle park -n-
fly - it's below 40 here in Seattle in the evenings.

Hey all -

I use the lobby internet kiosk. A $5 bill gets me 16 min and 40 sec.

of connect time.

Great report as usual. Thanks Mark. One thing I am wondering is what
the Peppermill will think of your hit and run there.

Another good and informative trip report Mark.
Thank you for submitting it, to all us VP players.
Great job very thorough.

Always something funny too. My favorites: spurs "doing a number" on
the chair legs and "nearly soiled myself" on the RF4 hand.

I try not to sweat this George. I think I've written about this before when the subject was
discussed. I treat CASH bonus and freeplay as rewards for previous play. I know that on
vpFree, folks have stated that a hit and run (even a card swipe for a giveaway without any
play) counts as a visit and diminishes your trip average and all that. Possibly true, if they
are "gunning for you"- looking for a reason to stiff you out of future comps, etc.

But I haven't seen this happen to me, maybe my host covers for me somehow, I know
hosts can adjust your account -OR- maybe it's just a myth.

My last trip in July was to Peppermill. Sorry I didn't post a trip report for that trip, I lost a
bundle. But during that trip I did a hit and run for $500 cash at Silver. No play required so
I didn't play and scooted it back to Pepps. My Silver Host didn't mention it last weekend,
and I think he would've if it mattered. In fact, like I reported, I might be upgraded to
Baron.

Oh - I forgot to mention this about SIlver: they changed the music type that they play on
the overhead p.a. It's now classic rock. Not schmaltzy but great stuff, to me and every
employee I talked to: Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, the Who, Rush, Black
Sabbath (!), the Doors, Aerosmith, Jethro Tull. Amazing and thoroughly enjoyable, instead
of having to tune it out, I found myself singing along. What a difference.

You reading this MJ Perry? You're our resident music buff.

Good luck to you in the next wave of visitors. See if you can drum up a trip report,
however brief. I keep 3x5 index cards and a pen in my pocket to keep notes.

Thanks for posting kudos, let's me know you're out there!

Great trip report, as always.

Your stamina and versatility continue to amaze me.
No way that I could play all of the games that you
do, without giving up a lot of strategy EV.

I recall you mentioning your "plan" before, but not
as much as you did this trip. I hope (actually, I'm
sure) that you keep stats on the plan, and will share
them with us. I'd also be interested in a recap on
the plan's features.

Better luck next trip.

Well, I tailor my plans to the inventory, my budget of course.
Each trip I twist the previous plan for a given casino.
With the standard disclaimers that this plan works for me and YMMV and
no copying, here's what I had planned for Silver in Oct:

Main Plan: budget $3400
(loss limit - denom- VPgame)

···

==========================
$100 - 25c ACE$BP (JW & DW substitutions)
$100 - 25c DDB Prog
$200 - 25c DDB 3play
$200 - 50c ACE$BP
--------------------
$400 - 50c DDB 3play
$400 - $1 ACE$BP & BP suited progs
$400 - $1 DDB Prog
$400 - $1 DDB 3play
----------------------
$400 - $2 ACE$BP
$800 - $2 DDB 3play

Machine session Profits of $100 get pocketed. This is soft.
Overall 'Session' goal is $500 profit, then I start over.

=======================
Performance to plan? well,.....
I didn't have to venture past the 50c triple play on days 1, 2 or 3.
I stuck to the plan not too religiously, but moreso than previous
trips. It is very difficult to mix in 3-line play with single line and
get a valid progression.
If this sort of plan is new to anybody, you basically move to
'riskier' games at the same denom, then up in denom as you lose so
much. Once you hit bonus quads or better, that amount should make up
for all your losses to that point. Then you start over.
I will not discuss the logic , the details nor defend the Plan further
other than to say it has worked for me.
Day 4 I went all the way thru the Plan without hitting a Jackpot nor
mini-jackpots, so I was out of bankroll.
I started over somewhat on day 5 and staged a slight comeback, so it
was an OK trip.

Oh, and they changed the music selection, which made for a more
pleasant playing environment.

I'm off to Peppermill this coming week, and here's what I have for a
Plan there:

$100 25c BP (seq$12.5K RF)Prog RF
$100 25c JW prog (KB)
$200 25c DDB (10/6)
$100 50c JoB 3-way progs (@cabaret)
$300 50c DDB
------------------------------------
$200 $1 KBJW Prog
$400 $1 DDB Prog
$400 $1 DDB (10/6/50) in high limit area
-------------------------------------
$300 $2 JoB ($9400 RF prog)
$300 $2 ACE$BP (in high limit)
$600 $2 DDB (in high limit)
---------------------------------
Bankroll of $3000
'session' goal of +$500
I'm sure I'll play some NSUD, I think I have $150 freeplay coming,
so I'll stick to 25c denom on that.

I know you've mentioned previously my nimbleness at different games
and my 10 hrs a day or more stamina. Thanks, but I really have nothing
else to do in Reno, and it isn't a drag to play, it's usually
downright envigorating. And I can't tell you if I give up EV from
errors switching games, but I can tell you if I hit enough quads to
keep me positive on the bankroll!

So, I feel like I'm goin out on a limb here, revealing my play Plan in
a post instead of a private e-mail. It's money management and it helps
me stay organized in the chaotic atmosphere.

Cheers vpFae! (which = the vpFree Administrator Emeritus)

Mark , my list for the Silver L is similar to yours, the only exceptions I used were as follows:
instead of $1/$2 Aces$ bonus poker and 9/6 ddb progressive ( only $4100 when last there ) , I substitute:

50C/$1 all american
$1 8/5 BP progressive at Silver Baron lounge ( last time I was there - over $5200 )
50C/$1 9/5 triple bonus plus ( 1-20 coin games )
5C 9/6/90=SF 25-50 play jacks or better

best wishes...Tom
