TRIP REPORT MSS,RIO, ORL, NYNY,GN,San REMO,Hyatt, Montelago

just back from our second Vegas trip this summer. This time 11 days
(Stays.... MSS, RIO,Orleans,NYNY and Golden Nugget with plays also at SAN
REMO, Hyatt and Montelago) This is not intended to be humorous but give
data. Primarily single and triple quarter play with a little dollar play
thrown in for laughs.

Highlights

1. Main Street Station.

Gave the Deuces about $30,000 coin in over three days. DANGER. The first
two days NO points were recorded (played on 10/7 DB slant tops and upright
FPDW). My coin in was recorded but no points. Long story. I was assured
by several people that it would be fixed but alas, five days later still no
points. What is weird is that on day three it appeared that I was getting
double points. CONFIRMED that gold card requires average of $8,500 coin in.
Ours was over $11,000 so we were assured that we were okay again for next
trip. Host IPO remains the best in our opinion although I actually got a
smile out of GLORIA. The boothlings are all friendly and helpful.

Wife got deuces five times. Me twice.

Played next to Bill and Ann who are also members! Always great to meet to
other knowledgeable players.

RESULTS $148 scratch cards, $32,065 coin in, WIN $31

2. RIO

Wife was in a slot tourney so went here. Wife didn't win anything. I enjoy
the rooms alot and also all the action in the casino. For the first time I
actually saw a Beavertainer that was actually more interesting than Bonus
Poker. We played the Bonus Poker and Double Deuces. No deuces. Bonus
credits on Regular Bonus Poker are about 3x. On Double Deuces and BP
progressive less than 1X.

RESULTS $8,350 coin in, WIN $115

3. San Remo.

Didn't stay here but went to play FPDW and 10/7 as well as cheap $2 BJ.
When signed up for card at booth wife asked if they had any specials that
she should know about. Boothling said no but then said, "wait a minute".
A couple minutes later a floor person came back and gave my wife two free
dinners at coffee shop for ZERO play whatsoever. We ended up playing about
$3,000.

I went to see SHoWGIRLS of MAGIC and consider it to be one of the better
shows I've seen for the price. Actually got a discount ticket and a free
picture with the showgirls (with their tops on) afterwards by using the
coupon from the American Casino Guide.

Note: We came back a few days later and played again. Ended up giving them
about $6,000 coin in for the two trips. Wife asked nicely and got two more
free dinners without use of points. Everything is as described in top 40
pages. This place is not the Bellagio and the games are old and slower BUT
if the rooms are decent we will definitely stop by here again IF we get some
kind of offer. It is a type of place that was kind of dirty but is worthy
of a visit if you want to roll a little roller.

RESULTS Cash Back $10, $6,396 coin in, LOSS $510

4. Orleans

Was here on suite offer. Included suite, tix to Righteous Brothers (they
sucked), robe (very nice), champagne, room service breakfasts, dinner for 2
at Canal St.

The only thing left of interest to us is the .25 10/7 and the place just
isn't the same. Even with a suite and all the perks it just wasn't fun.
What really irritated us the most is that we were playing 10/7 and had just
lost about $400 and asked for water with the lids on. They told us they
couldn't do that. A few minutes later we asked a different waitress
elsewhere in the casino and were given the same answer. After getting this
answer we cashed out and decided that we will no longer play here unless
things really improve. Wife got one set of ACES. Me nothing.

RESULTS Cash Back $10, $4,695 coin in, LOSS $380

5. Montelago

This is everything as described on the top 40. Great place had the most fun
here. Wife got three sets of deuces AND one set of Aces with kicker in
10/6 DDB. Me nothing. I went two hours in Joker Poker without a four of a
kind and I play FAST. At one poing I checked to make sure they were IGT
machines.

Note: they have lots of 1 and 2 cent multiline slot machines that we allowed
ourselves some limited play on. Wife did well on LOBSTER MANIA and
Cleopatra Plus +$80. (read that John Zaroff?) and I liked Fox and Hounds
( I lost of course)

It is worth the trip just to visit this place and walk around the village!
Not much open yet but when done will be very nice.

RESULTS Cash Back $40, $14,422 coin in, WIN $46

Note also: Did not receive double points when asked at sign up BUT a fellow
VP'er made a contact for me and "long story short", they have adjusted my
points!

6. Hyatt Regency

Stopped by and donated $200 to the dollar and quarter JOB. If this place is
there more than two months from now I will be surprised. Might be a decent
place to stay at though. I beleive Montelago might actually work something
out for rooms.....

7. NYNY

Actually this moved up on our list after hating Orleans so much. We had the
free Eagles tickets offer and our host also comped Rita Rudner tickets. We
enjoyed both although we are not real strong Eagles fans.

Mostly played the triple plays. Wife had dealt deuces on NSUD ($750). Of
course I did nothing. We also played the crazy 8/6/130 15/9/4 deuce
progressive when top Royal was over $2,100. took a break, came back and it
had been hit.

We greatly enjoyed the Nine Fine Irishmen restaurant. Ate there twice.
This place is now in the running for best waitress costumes. It took me a
couple minutes to figure out why I liked them so well. Enough said.

RESULTS Cash Back and free play $148, $29,460 coin in, LOSS $390

8. Golden Nugget

Played the 10/7 nickels mostly with some dollar JOB thrown in for luck (of
which I had none). Everything same as usual except we could not get the AC
cold enough in our room. That was okay I guess since it made me miserable
and got me in the mood to have to come back to work.

RESULTS Cash Back (and offer points) $93, $11,715 coin in, LOSS $770

9. Las VEGAS CLub. No play but came here to use some meals. We got to use
our Great Moments card and had dinner with Maverick. It is interesting to
meet people and see where they are coming from, even if they have a
different perspective. I also got to briefly chat with RECVPPLAYER although
I was far too tired to stay and play Blackjack.

Conclusions and final comments. This was a fun trip for us as we did many
of the things we wanted to do on past trips but previously were unable to
do. We saw Mamma Mia which we STRONGLY encourage people to see if they like
upbeat musicals especially if they like ABBA.

This would have been a very positive tip for us if I had stayed in the car
with the windows rolled up. My wife had a great tip and I basically lost
everything she won and more.

For the total trip we had $449 cash back, $111,373 coin in, Lost $2,028, Had
$1741 in coms (our value not the casino). Our loss after cash back
was -$1,579 or -1.42%.

My losing streak continues and I have not had a .25 Royal since June 10. I
am now moving into my 6th Royal cycle. It is a good thing I have a wife who
is a winner.

FINAL note.... After my two hour streak of no Four of a Kinds on Joker
Poker I played Five pushes of KENO and won $126. What ever happened to Keno
Evelyn? Perhaps I have found my new game?

Ednar: That was a great report. I'm always puzzled why few if any ever comment
when trip reports are posted. Instead there's pages on how to save a buck
riding the bus. But I'm glad you enjoyed Monte Lago - my personal favorite. One
disturbing point though: I went into the sports bar Sat. night at 9:45, and I
was the ONLY one at the bar, there was no one at any of the tables, and 3
tables on the mezzanine level had people listening to the band. In fact, the
gal bartender only kept the bar open because I was playing. I chatted with her
later, and even the employees aren't allowed to play vp at either of the bars
there after hours. So they all went to the Fiesta--as usual--to spend their
money. The bartender knows who I am, so she asked me to fill out a suggestion
for the Casino Mgr., but I don't expect any drastic changes. But they do need
some to get the people in. How was it when you were there?

Thanks for the comments. I sometimes wonder after I post those reports if I
am wasting my time. Rarely are comments made so maybe most don't read them?

We were there for about 5 - 6 hours on two different days and there were
probably no more than 25 people in the entire place on any of those days. I
talked to one of the security guys and supposedly they are hoping business
will pick up when the village gets more stores. It is one of our favorite
places. I hope they get more business too because this place is too nice to
fail. It is worth the drive!

Ednar. I believe that all members find your reports and the reports of
others very useful indeed. Many of us only get to a decent gambling town
a few times a year, and detailed reports keep us up to date on the
constant changes that take place in the casinos. I think that most
people don't respond because the don't want to fill the site with
hundreds of "thank you" letters, even though they (the letters) are well
deserved. The trip reports may go unthanked, but the are deeply
appreciated. Dick M.

Ednar,

We read your report with interest as we are going to Vegas next
week. We had already planned to visit MonteLago based on the
recommendation of some members of this group and various articles we
have read. Your trip report and Rob's comments have moved ML up on
our list places to visit. After all, it does represent an
interesting concept: a casino that isn't crowded and doesn't pick
your pocket like crazy.

Thanks to both of you.

Good luck,
Daryl
