Trip Report-Lawrenceburg

Yesterday, I drove 2 + hours to Argosy, Lawrenceburg. I had a big
day there in November hitting a Progressive Royal for $4900.

Anyway, they sent me coupons for $50.00 & $10.00 cash which can be
deposited into VP machine. I inserted both when I arrived at 9
a.m., playing $1 ddb progressive. In a few hands, I hit a guad for
$250.00, then a few minutes later, hit 4 aces with a kicker for a
hand pay $2,000. With $335.00 still in credits on the machine, I
payed a few more hands and hit 4 aces for $800.00. Wow, I was hot,
still no money out of my pocket yet.

Now the downside, I stayed on that machine for 2 more hours and
didn't hit another quad, needless to say, I blew the $960 in credits.

I switched machines thinking for sure, I'd hit a hot streak. I hit
for quads over the next 6 hours, only one, 4 fours for $400.00. I
blew the $2000.00 plus $500 of my money.

I felt like a real idiot, knowing that If I had the brains to stop
after playing 15 minutes, I could have went home with $3500.00

I keep telling myself that I'm really stupid. I've played this game
for nearly 7 years, mostly in Vegas and more recently at Argosy
nearer my home.

The challenge I have is driving 2 1/2 hours to enjoy playing the
game every other month and having to deal with getting up and
driving 2 1/2 hours home and never really enjoying the excitement of
the game.

Do others expeience this as well?

Don't be too hard on yourself. You could have easily kept hitting and gone home with twice the amount you were up at one time. As long as you were playing correct and within your bankroll you were simply providing an opportunity to hit the royal or other big hits....it has happened to others and will happen to you. We have had both experiences over the past 4 years.....up $10K and then down $10k. It is all relevant in the long run. We have seen a player hit 4 A's on TDB at $2 for $1,600 and followed twice by 4 A's with kicker on the same machine and same game TDB at $2 and was handpaid $16k ....all within a total of 30 mins. I recently played at Red Rock and hit a Royal on 9/6 DDB at $1. I went back to the same machine later that night (couldn¢t sleep) and hit a royal at $2.....I could not believe it! I could have stopped and left up $4k, but I kept playing and left up much more. One thing we have learned is that when you
are up....it is sometimes very good to leave and go home just for a morale builder....it sucks big time if you go home 90% of the time down and only 10% of the time up......even if you are slightly up overall. Feeling good about playing as a lot to do with karma and correct play.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but unless the progressive meter
was north of $7500+ you should feel like an idiot for playing DDB on
that bank which pays 9/5 as opposed to the $1 10/6 DDB machines
downstairs by the poker room. As far as plowing your win back in to
the machine and losing for the day, unless you have no plans to ever
play VP again, I see no reason to beat yourself up over that.
Preserving a win form of money management is total voodoo if you
intend to play the same game under the same conditions at some point
in the future.

PS You may have noticed that Argosy has recently adopted the Harrah's
philosophy of downgrading the points earned for coin in on VP. It now
takes twice as much as it used to to earn a point reducing the
effective cash back to 0.125% there.
