Trip Report - Jan 13-16 Peppermill

This visit was primarily for a 3-day Scrabble tournament at the Hilton.
My host at Peppermill per-comped me a big suite, as I brought along my
16 yr-old son and his schoolmate, both Scrabble prodigies.

Flew on Southwest, both flights were FULL, but on-time and hassle-
free. We limo'd to Pepps, and ran into my host on the way to check-in.
She made sure we checked-in in the VIP area. The kids decided to order
room service and my friend and I went to Oceano for a great meal
(sushi, halibut and spearfish).

Hi Mark,

Congratulations to you for a sucessful trip and an intersting TR.

Kudos also to Sonny and his Buddy for placing 1st & 2nd in the
Scrabble Tourney! You must be justifiably proud of these talented
and brilliant kids. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from
the tree.

Best regards.
-Babe-

Thanks for the TR. Seems you made a good score on the DDB machines. Were those 9/6 or 10/6 50C ones ?

Definitely 10/6/40 DDB (40-1 SF makes the game 99.9% EV)
6 machines near blue keno -edge of sports book, per the database.
I got two quad As + kicker DEALT to me previous visit last Oct. Had to work for them
by drawing this time.

Found out I had 10 hrs play this Jan trip & almost 40K coin-in. Not bad considering I
was in town for 70 hrs and about 26 hrs of Scrabble, 6 hrs dinner. It was nice of my
host to comp everything - I must have a bank of comps saved up plus I have a nice
host. This is why I like to have a host.

I figure 6 hrs at 50c denom, 3 hrs at $1 and another hour of "other stuff": incl. a little
5-play 5c MS, 5-play 25c SAB, 3-play 9/6DDB and some $2 BP in high limit. Plus I
had about 3 hrs of $1 BP at Reno Hilton.

Oh, we had french toast for room service breakfast each day. Definitely excellent dish
and a great way to start the day. Still no Thai spring rolls at the steakhouse.

If construction is noisy - how about earplugs??

Don't think they sell earplugs at the gift shop. Just seemed easier
to move across the hall. Thanks for the advise.

Yes, I'm no gourmet, but I am sure getting to taste some new foods
at Oceano. Ironic that I live in Seattle and go to Reno for great
Seafood. Like everything else - fresh is good. The rice isn't just a
garnishment, the sauces are lively, the bread is fresh, service is
fine, scenery is exciting. Sushi - again, not my specialty, but it
sure is primo to my uneducated taste buds. And I am pretty nimble
with them chopsticks. And the prices aren't high on anything, so IF
I had to pay for my food I'd still eat there.

Thanks for congrats, Chandler & others. Takin' home a profit is,
per usual, from 5 hands-worth of luck. This trip it was bonus type
quads: AAAA4, AAAA2, wild 2222x, AAAAx and 44442. All at 50c
denom. Lucky for 10 hrs play. Keeps me hooked anyhow.

Hi there Mark,

Thanks for the TR. Turns out I was there same days as you, if I'd known would've tried to find you and say a quick hi. Like you, I'm a frequent Reno and Peppermill visitor and fellow Reno VP advocate :-).

By the way, did you happen to hit any "coupon quads" during your trip? I noticed that the Pepp has changed their four-of-a-kind coupons to be tickets for the "Mr. Money" free play machine instead of cash based on denom. In the past from the coupons they give out at the player card booth (if you know to ask for them) they included coupons for hitting certain type quads which if hit won a cash bonus paid at the machine, with the cash amount based on denom of the machine. (These quad coupons also appear in the quarterly mailers from Pepp). But now, these coupons are for a free play on the Pepp's "Mr. Money" machine, which is some type of random game that earns you free play credited to your card, based on how far you make it up the screen making choices (you can quit at any time for a certain amount, or risk going higher and getting a much lower amount if you don't make it to the next level, etc.). Previously, the most common way to get to play the Mr. Money deal was if you got an entry from swiping your card at the info booth.

Anyway, while playing 10/7 quarter DB there last weekend my Dad and I got 3 entries to the Mr. Money machine after hitting 3 quads (of the J-A range), and got back $69 in free play from Mr. Money for them. The old way, if I remember right, we'd have only gotten $30 ($10 for each quarter quad). It seems the lowest we could win per Mr. Money attempt was $12 or $14. Interesting thing about these new quad coupons, they say nothing about denom anymore, so seems like people could play nickel or penny VP machines and still win the Mr. Money entries, though I don't know if they are "programmed' to pay more on Mr. Money based on the denom, that would be interesting to know.

Well thanks again for the TR and great going on the Scrabble; it's my wife's favorite game so I appreciate your son's accomplishment.

Cheers,

Craig (Reno Peppermill VP "enthusiast")

Craig -
Yes I got one of those quad coupons via from doing the daily card
swipe. I spaced the coupon book coupons, they sat in my briefcase
all weekend. I think I'll be back before the coupon book ones
expire, so no biggie.

My quad card on the swipe was 9's. I DID notice the new prize was
now a mr. money challenge and I would've preferred the 40 coins.
True about no denomination being stipulated, I noticed that also. I
rather doubt that a nickel win would make the mr. money challenge
results any lower than a dollar win, but let's keep in touch as a
group and maybe we can figure it out after mapping some data points.
I think this promo will last a while.

I've done the mr. money challenge before, and gambled it up to a
nice roughly $100 freePlay on one try. It is quite a gamble after
three or four good selections. Like a TV game show. Maybe Mr. money
IS better than 40 coins. gotta love freePlay, however you earn it,
so easy to access and play.

I would've been hard to nail down even to meet for five minutes this
last trip. I was zipping around. We probably crossed paths without
knowing it.

Keep in touch, "brother".

Hi Craig. Are you saying you got extra coupons for the quad bonus? Or did
I misread? I'm not sure what the EV of Mr. Money is. I preferred the coin
bonus because I could make a stab at its value and because I could play up
to dollars. If you get the Mr. Money bonus while playing nickels or
pennies, the actual ER might be better on Mr. Money. I think I got a $7 and
a $14 when I played MM.

Yeah, it only takes a couple of hands to make a beautiful trip. I'll trust
