trip report 7/21-7/27

Arrived at LAS airport one hour late from Boston and went
directly to the new rental car building. After thirty five minutes
in line, we were told (Dollar Rental) that the computers were down.
It is now 11:35pm. They suggested all of us (apx 30 people) hire a
taxi get a receipt and then get another taxi the next day, and pick
up auto and they will reimburse us with a deduction off the rental
fee. It was the first and last time I will use Dollar. If it
happened again (with any agency) I will demand they bring my rental
to the hotel and leave the keys at the front desk. The taxi driver
said what actually happened was that they overbooked.....Arrived at
The Palms apx. 12:30 pm only to be told that my room was not ready.
HOWEVER, I was offered the "Directors Suite" for the first night. I
went to the Fantasy Tower 26th floor, opened the door, oh my
God.....2,000 sq ft, One bed, seven tv's, three bathrooms including
sauna, jacuzzi, walk in closet fireplace, round marble dining table,
floor to ceiling windows with electric drapes, and a bar which had
a "window" which had a frosted glass that turned into clear glass
with a dial which was a strippers dance pole, with flashing disco
lights......I'm 60 years old, traveling alone, and all I want to do
is play VP..that was a hoot. They kept me in the Fantasy Tower down
to the 12th floor and I had the best view I've ever had in LV.. I
could see from Mandalay Bay to the Strat. tower. My vp play
was very weak. No royals no deuces etc. Left after three comped
nights with no charges and no winnings. I've read about this guy who
falls asleep, and I think he was next to me one morning drinking
those Red Bullet or whatever it's called to keep him awake, then fell
asleep again before my eyes. I didn't talk to him and he didn't
bother me. I then checked out and went to my favored Sunset
Station. Three comped nights on Thurs-Sat. Played mostly quarter
DDB and did reallly well. One session I decided to bump up to Halves
and lo and behold, caught four threess, dealt 4OK twice several more
4OK and then caught aces/w/kicker.....and cashed out $1,538.00, and
gladly no tax tix. I have friends (30 yrs) that live in
Henderson, invited them to dinner at what I believe is calleed Sonoma
Cellars at SS. It was wonderful, greats steaks, ambiance, service,
etc. a bit pricey but worth it. Also took a friend and his
mom out to Lake Las Vegas to the Vineyards clubhouse restaurant which
was very nice, with beautiful views. All told I ended up
$1,000.00 ahead for the entire trip. I'm very happy. Regards,
Rod

Sounds like a great trip Rod - congrats!

On the car problem - just sign up for the frequent renter program offered for free by most companies and you will skip the wait. I always use Dollar Fastbreak and all you do is bypass the line in the terminal and go directly to the booth in the garage, where your paperwork is already waiting. Slip the guy in the lot a 10 spot and your economy car magically turns into a full size - or better - right before your eyes!

I will say this. I am a member of the Dollar express (fastbreak is
Budget, so you either have the club or company name wrong), and have
had to wait as much as 20 minutes on line to get my "already waiting"
paperwork. In addition, on 2 of the 3 last rentals, they were just
about out of cars period, and I was fortunate the attendant gave me
priority after a 10 minute wait to get a car when one was returned.

I migrated from a Windows mobile phone to an iPhone. However, I miss having the video poker training provided by Dean's Pocket Winpoker.
Does anyone know of any native iPhone equivalent? I know there are some "web apps", but they require an internet connection, and are just web pages formatted for the iPhone. I'm looking for a native app.

Is Dean, or Jean, or Bob (or anyone else) thinking about porting any existing software?

Thanks!

Sorry, not for FVP.
