This is not a happy trip report like I usually submit. It is not fun to lose and also not fun to lose your airline in mid-trip. I thought I`d share my experiences.
I`m from Chicago and met Marikay from Indiana (who is on this list) at the airport in LV. She had flown in on Southwest Airlines. We went to Alamo for our reserved full size Intrepid. $110 including all taxes for one week. Reserved with quicksilver off the internet and with coupon from BJ`s Car Rental coupon for $20 off.
In and out quite quickly at the quicksilver area.
Off to Orleans for 3 days. I had the 3 night offer with breakfast in room, show tickets, Prime Loft dinners.
Dinner at the Prime Loft was good and cheesecake to die for. Sunday saw Louie Anderson at the showroom and he was great. Our very own Marikay got the .25 triple play progressive by the buffet by being dealt a royal flush and took over $13,000!!!!!
Spent 2 nights at Sam`s Town and the 2nd night on Wednesday, I learned my airline National would not be flying me home.
That news was really psychologically devastating to say the least. Yes, I`m sorry for the employees, etc. It would have been nice for all to have some notice.
I was on the phone Wednesday night for 4 hours trying to find a way to get home. American airlines gave me a number which I thought was a confirmed standby something. (Never assume. ) I was somewhat relieved to think that I had something going. I was told to get to the airport 3 hours early for the 10:14am flight Saturday. I had never flown standby before.
On to the Barbary Coast for 2 days. Had a great dinner at Michael`s thanks to Lisa Vios.
The whole trip had deuces once. One royal $1000.
Total lose for trip $2500. 98% played on full pay VP quarters. My worst trip ever.
On Saturday(or the day from aiport hell) I was at the airport at 6:15am. Stood in Amercian`s long line and reached the counter at 7:30. They would not help me. There was a different line for National customers. Stood in that line which no one helped for 2 hours. Many people left to try other airlines but I had my number from American in my hand. I finally got to the counter at 10:45am. They took my luggage and I signed a paper giving my airfare paid to National to American on my credit card. At the gate there were quite a few of us standby`s. The 12:14 left with my luggage and without me. The next 2 flights were oversold and I was the 9th standby. The gal at the gate advised me to be sure to get out today because Sunday would be twice as bad and I probably would not be able to get out til Tuesday.
Well, I went to San Jose, CA. Waited there and took the red eye home. I got into Chicago at 4:30am and had to wait til 5am for someone to come on duty to get my luggage that had thankfully been locked up.
I think I would have been better off buying a confirmed seat on Wednesday to leave on Saturday. That way, I would not have worried for 3 days on how I would get home. Hindsight is 20/20.
