Trip Diary 8-06-06

Trip Diary 8-6-06 (3 of 20)

After a good night's rest, it's moving day. I packed my
things, checked out and put my bags in the car. I then went back
into Terribles to play the 9/6 JOB for quarters. As I mentioned
yesterday, in order to keep the freebies coming, I've learned that I
need to put a little over 1000 points per day on my card. Because I
rarely play for quarters any more (a dedicated low roller), I'm
careful not to make mistakes. I only hit one quad late in the
session, but I managed to get lots of flushes and full houses. After
putting on a little over 3000 points (it's triple points day), I
noticed I started making small mistakes as I'd now been playing over
an hour. When this happens, I know I need to quit. I still had $50
left of the $100 beginning, but I cashed out.

  I noticed a Kenny Roger's penny machine (my mother's
favorite) and put in a $10. I soon cashed out for $20 making my
total loss at Terribles for $40.00. I headed downtown to my next
stop, Vegas Club. Once again, they offered me a comped room for two
days. This will make my lodging costs for the first four days: $0.
Ain't it great?

I requested the North Tower (remember members, if you stay
here—always request the North Tower. The rooms are bigger and don't
face the early morning). The room was nice and clean with a couch,
two nice chairs, a desk, table and an outside bathroom mirror and
desk for make up or whatever. On a scale of 1 through 5, I give my
Vegas Club (2 ½ sheets). There is no dryer or coffee maker (though
this isn't a problem as I bring my own anyway). This particular
room's bed was actually softer than some of the other rooms I've
stayed at here.

I'd like to answer a couple of members' questions that were
asked of me on the LVA board. The room at Terribles is surprisingly
nice for a local's place. It comes with coffee maker and well-
stocked coffee, a hair dryer, and plenty of usual bathroom
toiletries. There's a desk with two upholstered chairs. The only
negative is a slight, strange smell. I can well recommend this hotel
when considering its low price. I give it 3 sheets.

I got a call from Stan (a longtime member I met through a
Vegas chat room) who moved to Las Vegas a few years ago. He told me
that another friend Tullio (sp?), another longtime member who lives
in Italy is coming in tomorrow and wanted to know if we could meet
for a dinner at the Green Valley Ranch. I readily accepted but
warned him I was picking up Martin from the airport in the morning
and he would be with me. All is good. It then occurred to me that
Stan could be the answer to my problem with the AC cord delivery. I
asked him if I could have it sent to his house and pick it up there
when it arrives. He agreed! That's a huge load off my mind. Just
another reason why I love the Vegas Bulletin Boards, you meet great
people who are always willing to lend a helping hand.

I then went to the car and go the bag of quarters and nickels
play slot machines. However, this is the one time I do. I consider
my year's loose change as free money and I don't even count it. I
can say that after putting into a change bucket, it came to about
half full. I played a quarter machine called, Black Cherry. Well,
year after year, I tend to lose my change to the devouring slot
machines. However, I hit a couple of nice triple sevens, and cashed
out two full buckets of quarters, which turned out to be $200.00.
Sweet! This has in no way changed my mind about slot machines, but
I'm glad to have finally won from them.

I decided I was going to stay downtown today and perhaps
catch a movie. I'm a big movie fan, but I really don't get the
chance to see that many at home. In Vegas, there are now movie
theaters on just about every new casino. I walked down to Neonopolis
to check their schedule. I decided to see MONSTER HOUSE, but I had a
few hours before the 7:15 PM starting time. I went to Julian's for a
Cadillac margarita (a new favorite) and an appetizer plate called the
9 Ball. It was a sampling of all their appetizers. It was very
tasty (4 forks), and I enjoyed watching my Padres beat the Nationals
while enjoying the drink and food.

I still had quite a bit of time, so with my downtown
collection of slot cards, I figured this would be as good a time as
any to put some points on them. First was the Four Queens. They had
a Moon Wolf machine, which a member or two on the board had
recommended. Well, it wasn't very nice to me eating up my $20 in
less than ten minutes. I then played a nickel 9/6 JOB machine and
while the guy next to me hit four quads playing DDB during my short
session, I didn't catch anything, and another $20 went down the tubes.

I then walked over to the Golden Nugget where I played
another Kenny Rogers machine. I played for a really long time and
actually got tired of it. I cashed out the $17 ticket (from the
original $20), and moved over to my favorite penny machine,
Pharaohs. I hit a few bonuses, but nothing to write to about, and
after realizing it was getting close to movie time, I cashed out for
$17, a $3 loss for almost an hour worth of play. I accomplished my
goal of putting some points on my cards with a minimum of loses.

The movie was good. As I had read, though this appears to be
a children's movie, it's quite scary in spots. I really thought the
animation was best of any of the recent movies out (4 claps). For
those of you that haven't been to Neonopolis, while it was just
struggling for the longest time, it finally simply closed down
(except for the movie theaters). Every store and restaurant in the
entire complex is now gone. Surprisingly, the new Poker Dome was
built next to the movie theaters on the third floor. I couldn't go
inside it as there was no match going on (Poker Dome is run my
mansionpoker.com. and has finalist play for a million dollars on the
Fox Sports TV show).

I went back to Vegas Club after watching the Americana
Freemont Experience show (2 claps). I enjoyed a couple of $ .75 cent
shrimp cocktails at the Vegas Club snack bar (3 claps). Not as good
as the Golden Gate's $.99 ones, but still quite tasty. It was only
10:00 PM, but my day was done and I headed back to my room for some
much needed sleep.

More tomorrow.

from my loose change for the year collection. I rarely, if ever,

Sounds like you are having a great time. Anything I
can help you with, let me know as I work downtown.
Don't forget to stop and have a Krispy Kreme donut
before you leave. Play tic tac toe against the chicken
too at Fitzgeralds. Enjoy a $4.95 steak at Binions
too. Actually, I like the $7.77 steak and shrimp deal
