Tribal Gambling

Thanks to all for the replies. My wife and I had some time to kill so we took a few hundred buck up to Oklahoma to see what it was like. We normally visit Vegas 2-3 times a year. Shreveport LA is a long 3-4 hour drive but WinStar was only about 1 hour. Coming back with what we started with was pure luck.

Now knowing that I was only playing Bingo I don't think I'll go back. The $.50 "ante" to play Blackjack was also a turnoff. The soft drinks and coffee were free but you had to pay top dollar for any adult beverage. The adult beverage bars were an outside vendor and not run by the tribal council.

I'll save my bucks for Vegas or Shreveport.

Which joint are you talking about? Is it Thackerville? I'm guessing you're in Gainesville? Because if it is, I think you're making a hasty decision. Looks to me like that is Class 3, you were not playing "bingo", and the games you were playing on were indeed a good deal. I think it might be worth your effort to find out for sure. Good luck!

Much more than a turnoff. The ante for blackjack is horrible, horrible, horrible, except for extremely rare cases where the casino might have a lucrative promotion that overcomes the ante. Typical blackjack games have a house edge of around 0.5% for basic strategy players. If you are playing $5 per hand, you are giving up an extra 10% edge just to the ante. For a $5 per hand better playing 60 hands per hour, the expected loss to the game itself is about $1.50. A 50 cent ante adds a whopping $30 per hour to the cost of playing the game for the same conditions. Why anyone would ever touch these ante games with a 10 foot pole is beyond me. On the other hand, if you could be the dealer...

Just my .10 on the topic. I have been to Winstar many a times and the VP in the new expansion of casino is legit. If a slot or vp is a bingo machine then you should be able to see a small electronic bingo card in the upper left corner. This card changes each time you make a play "check the crazy cherries slots in case you doubt me" As for the VP in the old casino I am not sure about the class of these machines. I can tell you this they have terrible pay table for JOB ranging from 6/5 to 8/5 at the .05 to $ level. The new machines are great and offer full pay JOB at the .50 level "bar tops in Rome and further down"
Until then

Many Royals to all of you
