Tresspassed at Riviera for Asking a Question

Hello Gang...Ive been here in Las Vegas for over 2 weeks and will be leaving in a few days after the Consumer Electronics Show

So far the highlight of my trip has been getting 86'd tresspassed at the Riveria this evening!...

I havent been in the Riv for almost a year and since I was close by decided to drop in and put a few points on my card to keep it active

Going to the slot club to get a new card the attendant told me they recently devalued the point system resulting in having to play more $ to get the same points in the past...NOT GOOD....

Also briefly looking around I saw that anything that resembled good VP in the past was gone and the Hound Doggies 50s snack bar was also history too...soon to be replaced by a sportsbook

I decided to watch the last few minutes of the football game in the sportsbook and then go play a bit

Shortly afterward a security guard came up and asked me for an ID

I asked why and he said Nevada law gives them the right to ask and since this is private property I must show them ID.....He says we ask for ID from people all the time..Since Im in my 50s Im sure it was not age related

I showed my Id and was asked if I come in here a lot and do I play alot and if Im staying here..

I said Ive been a customer for 15 years and then I asked him what was your probable cause for the ID check on me

The guard said are you a lawyer?
Then he repeats Nevada law says this is private property and we have the right to ask and you must show ID,And again I ask but what did I do wrong

The guard says do you want speak with my boss and I said yes...Then he thanks me for showing him my ID without incident

So we walk down down a bit in the casino....The shift boss comes up
and tells repeats the same thing about private property and their right to ask and I tell him I understand but whats the reason for the check what did I do wrong

At that point the boss tells the guard to get rid of me and then Im read a trespassing statement...I ask why Im being trespassed
and was told for being uncooperative...just after getting praised for being cooperative a few minutes earlier!

So the guards walk me out of the Riv and a guard on bicycle follows me out of the garage

At no point any voices were raised
by anyone and everyone remained calm but the guards did throw in a few snide comments during the process

So the loss of going to the RIv is not a big deal....Bad VP and slot club and I never liked their rooms

But I really feel I was wronged and all the guard had to do was to answer my question...I answered all of theirs...But they were determined to not answer and for me to ask the reason for the ID check was scary enough to get 86'd

IM not familiar with the Nevada casino laws so if anyone in the group can give me an insight Id would appreciate it

If you don't know why they originally asked you for your
identification, maybe it's a case of mistaken identity. I doubt they
86ed you because you asked why you were asked for it. I believe that
fear of lawsuits prevents them from ever telling their "victims" why
they are being 86ed. I believe the law is that they may 86 you for
any reason, with provable discrimination being an exception, and that
they are not legally required to tell anyone why they were 86ed.

We'll if it went done as you said and you were "trespassed" on the
floor. You shouldn't have a problem returning again in the future.
Although, waiting a few weeks wouldn't be a bad idea.

Of course, as you said, you really won't miss if you never go back to
the Riv.

On a side note, it sounds like something is missing from this story.
Either you left something out or you never knew the whole story.

I'm thinking one or more of the following :you did something to get
security interested in you; you raised your voice and or were more
argumentative than you discribed; or there was a reason (unbeknownst
to you) as to why security was interested in you in the first place.

This very well could be a case on mistaken identity. If you did
nothing wrong, I see no reason for you to not show them your ID went
asked. Afterall, you gave your ID to the slot club boothlingm
right? They already have all the info on your ID.

FWIW, the Riveria was the first place in Vegas that ever asked from
my ID. Too bad I was only 17 at the time.

This is only good advice if one's goal is to be arrested.

I am sure there have been many response to this thread, but before I
even read them, my reaction to this thread is that it is NONSENSE.
Am I to believe that after watching the "last few minutes of the
football game and then go play a bit", "shortly afterward a security
guard came up and asked me for an ID." ???

Let's make it easy...

$1 for the date and time
$10 for the full name of the security guard
$20 for the full name of the "shift boss"
$30 for the full name of the "guard on a bicylcle"
$40 for how the "guard" became "the guards"

Or...how about a lawsuit if you cannot provide ALL of the above?

Like I said. The mindset that the casinos are always right permeates
Nevada culture.

Surprise Trip reports....Well Im back and promise to post a most
interesting report upon my return from LV.....However I wanted to
report than with 5 minutes of my arrival at Fitzgeralds I was stopped
and detained by Security for suspicious behavior.....My crime...
checking out the payscale on 1 Video Poker Machine!.....First the
security guard demanded me to show her ID...When asked why she said I
looked familiar and my behavior was suspicuous...She then said
since this was private property I must show her ID upon demand...I
refused....When asked what I did wrong....She said I was going up to
a number of machines and hitting their buttons without putting in
money....I tell her thats not true....A security supervisor now shows
up says he has to believe the guards story.... I ask the security
guard how many machines she saw me touching and because now her boss
there she changes her story and says only one....I said since I
havent been to the Fitz since last year I checked out the payscale on
one machine to see what it currently was and didnt hit any buttons...
upon further questioning by me she then said maybe she was wrong
and I didnt hit any buttons

Since I'm loathe to suggest that there's likely a bridge above SH (I
find that just about anything under the sun is plausible when it comes
to vp), I can only assume that SH's casino presence is a bright and
gleaming one - one that is almost impossible to overlook should you
happen by.

Very good post Harry. You have to wonder why someone wouldn't think
to mention in the story that just about the same thing happened to
them before at the Fitz 6 months ago! He/she presents it as
such an awful/amazing thing, yet it happened (at least) once before!?

It happens frequently in Las Vegas. I suspect they thought Starhunter
was someone else. And in my experience, casino security guards are
some of the most insecure, power hungry individuals in existence
(really, how many stable individuals want a career in "casino
security"?). It doesn't take much to raise the ire of these wanna-be
cops.
