Treasure Island Las Vegas

Posted here 1/9/08:

All of the higher denomination ($5, $10, $25) 9/6
Jacks or Better video poker is MIA at TI. The High
Limit slot area was moved; it is now adjacent to the
High Limit table games area.

Posted here 1/10/08:

I was there again last night and T.I. still has: -
single line 9/6 Jacks or Better at the $10 level in
the High Limit Room. I am pretty sure (but not
positive) that the single line $25 level 9/6
JoB is there too. Sorry about all the confusion.

According to what we saw at TI today, it's true that
the new high-limit room near the slot club doesn't
have any single-line $5 9/6 JoB, but they do have it
in 3/5 play.

The old high-limit room near Isla Restaurant is still
there and still has $5 single-line 9/6 JoB.

And there's plenty of $5 single-line $5 9/6 JoB at TI
not in the high-limit rooms.

Gee, thanks, T.I., but we're on to you.

The trend continues. Casinos increase the stakes if you want to find
full-pay games. The 3/5/10 play $1 9/6 Jacks outside of the T.I. high
limit? Gone forever. Along with the $2 3 plays inside.

All of you know skillful strategy is a key to VP survival. I now add
that money management is equally if not more vital. Sit down at one
of those $5 (especially multi-play) machines without adequate funding
and you play right into the casino's hands.

All the game knowledge and strategy in the world cannot and
will not save you if you run out of money first.

Which is exactly what the casino has in mind.

Money management has always been important. If you play over your roll,
your going to be dealing with a high risk of ruin.

In regards to your comment about playing into the casinos hands. Well,
here you're wrong. The casino doesn't care if certain players go bust
or not (or win or not). The casino just wants butts in the seats and
money going in the slot.

The casinos earn from a machine is based on the house advantage of the
game (which is affected by the quality of player) and the amount of
play going through the machine.

Actually.... Its not.

Individual gamblers are subject to the Risk of Ruin and so forth, but
the casino has a virtually infinite bankroll. They have nothing to
gain by busting out a player. Their concern is getting people to play
at an average loss based on skill and game pay tables.

In fact, decimationg a player's bankroll is probably bad for
business. That player may actually QUIT playing for good. That
player will probably not want to play there again, even if he does play
again.

REPLY: Correct!

But I think that the poster assumes levels of knowledge and rationality
rarely possessed by slot managers -- and clearly not possessed by TI's
slot managerds.

Aside: Maybe TI's total revenues would increase if they cleaned out
the visible mold in their guest-room bathrooms.
