Treasure Chest Poker

Hit the $5000 jackpot on the Treasure Chest Poker at MSS right before
the holiday. I don't often play this machine, because I haven't been
able to find any information on the frequency of the chest
denominations, and hence the overall payback of the machine.

But my parents play it all the time, and they think it's a blast so I
thought I'd give it a try. After about 4 hours or so, and many
140/180 chests later, I finally hit it. And to boot, it was 4
snowmen...keeping in with the holiday spirit.

I wanted to ask if anyone had any info on the overall frequency of the
hits? Or whether or not the chest is predetermined or not after the 4
of a kind is hit.

Thanks,
Ryan

Punch in "treasure chest poker" in the search feature at the top of
the vpFree message board to read posts about the game. These posts
go back to the summer of 2005.

One poster says that through 97 quads on quarters he averaged 185
coins. He says he got the $ll99 payout on the 98th quad--and did not
include it in the average. But I have a problem with this persons
statistics--if you get paid either 140 or 180 there is no way you can
average 185.

Another poster, Steve Bork, says he had played the game for years at
dollars and his quads averaged to 168 coins. He had hit the $5,000
twice.

I always take everyone else's collection of statistics with a grain
of salt. I would have to collect my own. If the quads averaged to
160 the game would be 98.9%, at 170 the game would be 99.4%. And God
only knows what the average is for the "big hit." That would be
proprietary information I don't think they are willing to give up.

If I were collectiing statistics on the quads I think I would pick
the same box everytime. The bigger the sample space the better but
I'm guessing I'll probably see a pattern develop after 15 or twenty
quads.

Congrats on the big hit !
If I remember right, the EV of TCP is slightly under 9/6 DDB. Lately there is a lot of talk about wheel poker, but if you like gimmicks this one is the better of the 2 plays !
best wishes....Tom

Thanks, tomflush, for your info and well wishes.

I had read most of the other posts on here regarding Treasure Chest
poker, but most of them are anecdotal or use small samples.

Do you know where your data comes from? Is there a denomination
frequency list I could take a look at?

Regards,
Ryan

My data comes from the hundreds of emails I have read over the years, both on Skip's site and vpfree. So I put a note on my personal cheatsheet ( which has most games worth playing in Nevada, along with most variations ). I have tried it a few times, and I understand why its a fun game, but choose to play others with higher EV's. Very similar to GoldMine bonus poker, the Casino's will not publish what the payback of the gimmick element is. Certaininly asking MSS, for the numbers it uses, will return a polite variant of "None of your business".

regards...Tom
