Traverse City, MI Casinos

My wife and I were in TC for Thanksgiving in 2001. My
cousin lives on the peninsula and told us to go to the
casino on the east side of the bay near Acme - the one
on the right as you come from the east on Hwy. 72 (I
can't for the life of me remember the name). She said
that's where the locals go when they play because
there seemed to be more winners there.

I knew very little about VP then, so I couldn't tell
you what they had there because I really wouldn't have
known what to look for.

We went in with $60 which we split between the two us
of us. As usual, my wife won enough on slots to keep
playing for 3 hours. I lost my half in about an hour
playing nickle "I Dream of Jeannie" and quarter "Wheel
of Fortune." After we had some lunch at the
restaurant (which was very nice) my wife had to play
her last $3 in the Elvis machines. After she made
Elvis sing a few times we ended up walking out with
over $500!

As I recall the service was very nice, the restaurant
was pretty good and reasonably priced, there was
plenty of parking, and we won. There is a no-smoking
slot section in the back to the left as you go in the
main door. I also remember wanting to play some
blackjack, but the table minimums were $10, so I
didn't bother with my paltry bankroll.

I believe you are talking about Turtle Creek Casino on
HWY 72. My father lives in Grayling (about an hour
east) and when I visit him we always go to Turtle
Creek. Last time I was there, dad and I played 9/6
JOB on quarters. I made a profit that day and we had
a good time. Even dad won a little money. They have
a variety of VP, including new Triple and Five Play
machines.

The casino is a good size. We didn't visit the
restaurant last time, however, we were able to eat a
3-egg omelet, toast and coffee for $3.49. I heard
that Bob Dancer was going to be there in July and
encouraged my brother to attend. I'd like to try a
tournament some day.

Just a week & a half ago, I was at a wedding in Sutton's Bay, just
north of Traverse City. Checked out Traverse Bay Casino for a couple
of hours. Didn't find any FPVP, but didn't look very hard either. I
just figured everything was short-pay.
However, I did find a pretty decent craps table. They had a $5 table
with 10x odds. Bought in for $100. Colored up for $362.

It was fun, but it's not Vegas... that's for sure.

The 9/6 JOBs that dad and I played on at that time
were located around the Deli - actually, across from
the deli there is a small carousel of VP. Several
machines are triple play and the rest are single play.
That's where we found 9/6 JOB. Hope they are still
there. The triple play on the end (not 9/6) was where
I had my Royal and that's when Dad decided that VP was
not all bad! I've actually converted husband, dad,
sister and brother to VP in the last 6 months. We all
enjoy it.

   I did a trip report/article for midwestcasinoguide.com on those
Traverse City
casinos last winter. It's called, "VP DOES VP IN TC BY BUS." Check it
out.
