Like some of you, I enjoy going to flea markets. It is always fun to find something you like or have been looking for a long time.

This is my question. Let's say you collect casino related memorabilia. You come upon an article that you know is marked way below its market value. Would you still try to get it cheaper?

The Webtv service must be up and running again. Continuously to cross post on the AC forum also. At least this one is not about smoking. "G" must be a lonely life.

Of course you would try to get it for less than the current asking price and here is the reason:
The seller has it marked up 4 or 5 times it's real value according to what they think it is worth...they are mentally prepeared to to take less and will sell it for only a 2 times markup (but only if you haggle with them)....when they do they still belive they are making money and that you paid too much. They are completely satisfied with this feeling of getting over on a buyer. You feel great because you did your homework, unlike the seller, and you knew the real value of the item. This technique, however, is not recommended if you buying it from your mother. ; )

You use the term "market value" as if it is set in stone and easy to determine. I would posit that if you think you can buy something for less than what you think its "market value" is, most likely your estimate of "market value" is too high. "Market value" is the lowest something will sell for, not the highest. If you can sell something for more than "market value", you are a profitable salesman.

By the way, this is not off topic. Playing slots involves "market value". For example, just because a particular casino has looser slots than Harrah's does not mean it's a good value. Or just because 6/5 bonus is the best game you can find does not mean it's a good value, etc.
